yeah this is what i have currently:

Crossover cable pluged into my PC directly
Simple NIC 10/100 10$
10 BaseT Full duplex
Win XP Pro
Cute FTPFlash FXP

I get around 1.2 mbitsec
....Im lying, ive already touched 1.8  wink.gif

Is this suposed to be fine?

I used to get 500k a sec then changed network card on laptop to a 32bit cardbus card and I got approx 1,300 kbps according to Flash FXP

On my desktop to xbox I've achieved 5,000 kbps on a 35mb file, like said elsewhere small files slow right down.

Interestingly I also have a PAL xbox, 1.4 with an 80GB Hard disk.

nearly forgot the most important bit using a 100mbit crossover cable, interestingly laptop to pc on same cable is a lot faster so I don't think it's the cable.

Ok, for some reason now with mxm I only get between 3-5mb/s max...yet Xbmc always goes at like 9/10mb/s. Awesome.

If I set my NIC to 100Base/Full Duplex I get a max of 1MB/s, and that's pushing it. When I set my NIC to 100Base/Half Duplex I get 4-5 MB/s. I'm using a Cat5 cable and a d-link router.

If you've set your PC to work at full-duplex and it goes slower than at half-duplex, that means the other end of the connection is still set to half-duplex. If you're going via a router then you need to reconfigure the router to go at full-duplex too.

I think the speeds are pretty random - i generally get 3-4Mbps but i think it probably depends on which way the transfer's going (xbox to pc, pc to xbox) - i wud say that it's also down to the hdd's and their activity/spin speed but i did a load of stuff on my pc hdd and then ftp'ed a game to it and got 10Mbps (both hdd's 5200rpm). Obviously it also depends on the quality of the disk, and maybe the dash. I use Unleash X now, mainly cause MXM takes too long to load up and is way behind in features. Oh yeh, I've got a direct crossover cable connection, that helps.

Yeah I use a router. How do I configure it to work at full duplex? By "other end of the connection," do you mean the xbox? Is there an option in mxm to configure the xbox for full or half? Sorry for the n00b questions man.

In your case, the other end of the connection is your router. Most devices auto-detect whether they should be half or full duplex, but it sounds like your router isn't doing that, so you might need to delve into its management interface.

If you are connecting directly to the Xbox, I haven't seen any way of configuring the Xbox duplex settings.

I get ~7-9mb/s with mxm, but with xbmc I get 10-11.5mb/s all the time... so it's obvious to which one I use for file transfers wink.gif

100 base-t full duplex network with...

Gentoo Linux, using gftp or konqueror, depends on the job wink.gif
hacked linksys wrt54g router ( I don't use a crossover to my desktop )
tulip-based network card with fast switching enabled ( maybe this helps? )
