OK now I'm getting miffed. muhaha.gif I have read several reports that the Maxtor 6Y080L0 80Gig drive is lockable yet I am unable to lock mine. I have tried it in 2 different v1.0 boxes with ConfigMagic Final and always get the message of "Locking Not Supported" . I am also still using the stock IDE cable. Could this be the problem? Do I need to swap out to an ATA133 cable to get this drive to lock? Has anyone that locked this drive done so with the stock cable? Could it possibly be an issue with v1.0 boxes or the Bios? I'm running X2 4977 on both boxes.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Any ideas? Cuz I'm stumped. What version BOX do you have and what bios are you running?

I'd hoped it would but that is roughly the same config I have going. Damn! I wish I could get this thing to lock.

No luck here. I even sent a message to Maxtor tech support and got the reply that ALL Maxtor drives fully support the ATA Security set and are lockable. I don't know at this point. I even tried the drive in a spare system I have with ATAPWD and it reports a - sign under the S option. Which supposedly means that the drive does not fully support the full ATA standard. Strange part was I then tried an old 20Gig Maxtor I have and got the same results from it. Maxtor also informed me that they do not have firmware updates for their drives. Don't know how true that is either. I've never dealt with any drive vendor that did not have to update firmware at least a half dozen times in the life of the product.

The only thing I can think of is that it must be something to do with the full model number. There must be some difference that is keeping mine from locking.

Here is the full details on my drive. If you could post the same for yours maybe I can figure it out.

Maxtor DiamondMax PLus 9 80GB ATA/133
