I really need some help. I am trying to upgrade my hard drive to a 120 gb drive. I bought a maxtor and a western digital drive. Both of them have the same problem. I keep getting a screen where it says i need to fix my xbox. I am using the slayers auto installer. I can't even get the slayers disc to load. It loaded fine on my original drive. I have the jumper set to cable select. If I put my old drive in it works fine. I don't know what to do. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm in the same boat.

Flashed chip with = X24977, I think?
Dashboard = Evox3921
HDD = Western Digital, Model 1200bb, 120 gig, 7200RPM

Followed the instructions....

Installed new WD HDD into computer used xhdprep1.3, prepared new HHD using "only 1st 4096 sectors of partitions"
installed new formatted hhd into xbox and TRIED to FTP with Evox in the DVD drive, but I keep getting "error 13" when I boot it up.

Any help would be appreciated. Or, if there is any easier way let me know...

Thanks...

hi, i think the problem is, when you are making your format cd useing nero, probly useing nero, when you open nero it automatically brings you to the screen where you need to be, at the bottom of the screen, right lower corner, select open, open the iso you created useing craxation, then put in cdwr and wait a bit, then select write speed 4x, and disk at once, then burn, put it in xbox, reset it, the ftp you old xbox c and e drive to the new drive, i had a 120 gig drive and wasent satisfied, you could find a better deal, check the papers, i got a 250 gig wd for 150$, it sould work, hopefully the problem, ps, make sure you dont ad the . xbe, .ini to the file names in you boot cd before you make it an iso, just rename the file default dont type default.xbe, you should just type default, no default.xbe when it is already an xbe file, also make sure you keep the backup drive in it's folder, it is crutial that that all of the 5 files so forth are in a folder called backup that you have put onto a cd with other files such as a dummy file and xbe and ini to make a boot cd with the links I have provided, hope i can help, with the cd running you should be able to use fxp tp ftp, hopefully helped

you should be useing the evox, newset version 3921, and newest M7 evolution x bios, forget auto installer, it's so easy you should spend the time to figure out how to do it, I did, use these links,

1. you should understand how to make a boot disk
http://forums.xbox-s...ST&f=16&t=89545

2. use this link to change the menu part of your evox.ini file, you must do this so that you have format drive in your menu when you put your boot disk in the xbox. the menu, [Menu] is at the bottom of the .ini file, which is in the evolution x folder you downloaded. delete everything below it and replace it with the set up you would like useing link below. their are two different set up's one is just an f drive, and the other is an f and g drive.
also, if you want to have all of your drive space on the f drive, when the drive is bigger then 137 gigs, instead of an f and g drive shareing it, you must use xbox tool to modify your bios, and select LBA48 and all extra space to f drive, save it, flash the new bios, then reformat the hard drive again. you'll figure it out, download it, it took me a while to find out how to put all available space, 250gigs on just the f drive, i think its better then having a f and g drive
http://xbox-scene.co...dd-install2.php

3. Now make the the boot disk with the modified evox.ini, default.ebx, dummy file ziped up, i used mp3' that totalled about 100mb and ziped them up, and the back up folder from you original xbox hard drive you backed up. then create an iso useing craxation, burn it

4. when you have your format cd running in the x box, and network settings set accodingly, for instance static ip set to yes if you are useing a switch like me, what ever your set up calls for, it must be set right for fxp to connect to your xbox. useually static ip must be set to yes. use fxp to connect and transfer over the c: and e: drives that you made back up's of from the original xbox hard drive. if you dont know how to use fxp, figure it out, its easy, search the forum. the ip is what you set it to be in the .ini file, just select site manager, any name, the ip of xbox, username xbox, password xbox. Then transfer the original evox.ini file over, once you have made the adjustments you want to it, and rename xboxdash to msxboxdash, and name the evox.ini to xboxdash. use the link below for evox set up

http://forums.xbox-s...ST&f=16&t=99627

error codes you might get from you xbox
http://www.xbox-scen.../errorcodes.php

here is how i had my .ini file set up for the boot disk, the basic stuff that matters

it could be that cable is not set, good thinking stivo! have you changed the pin setup on the back of the drive, the tinny little plastic thing that slides on and off of the pins on the back of the drive allowing you to change how its set up? have you messed with your bios useing xboxtool at all? is it a new hard drive? if its brand new it will work, has too, just keep monkeying around with it, i've spent so much time on my box trying to get it to work, but eventually all that time payed its self off. maybe try installing a new bios, like x2 4979.67 or the new evolution x m7 bios, could work. it might have something to do with how you have your drive perameters set in your bios if not the fact that you dont have cable select set up

Thanks for the advice,

I have tried everything you have said. I've had the jumper set for cable select and i've also tried it when it was set for master. I have tried w/ the following bios':

x2 4979.06
x2 4979.67
Evox M7
Evox M7_ef (don't know the difference between this one and the other M7)
Pandora (i dunno why i even have this one on there)

I haven't edited the bios' w/ xbtool though. I have xbtool but i've never used it. What should I try to do w/ it? I am also using a old hdd from my computer. I've tried it after it's been formatted and i've even tried it after unpartitioning it.

Please let me know if you have any more suggestions.

I would like to start out by saying hello to everyone. Been reading tons here for a while now just havent had anything to contribute. That is until now possibly,

I believe your problem stems from a small glitch I found. If you unplug your xbox for a while not sure on exact time. Lets say a hour, you would have to reset the system clock/date and such normally. If your system has lost time/date it will not boot from the cd-rom I think smile.gif. Please anyone correct me if this info is incorrect and I hope it helped.

Doh almost forgot I believe it can be fixed by putting in original hd and setting time/date then putting in hd u wish to use and attempt to reload slayer.

yes I believe that is true from what i have read in other forums. but if you use the evolution x bios, m7 i believe that the problem is solved, they made a way to override the problem. for instance, if you are playing grand theft, vice city, your saving the game revolves around having the time set right on your x box clock, wont let you play until you reset your clock. this can be a problem if you move and unplug your box alot, you'll always have to reset the clock to play. so I recommend you get the new evolution x bios m7, if you have a hard drive bigger then 137 gigs, to use this bios and be able to use all of your hard drive space you must use x box tool to change the partition in the bios. I have a 250 gig drive and changed mine so that all available space would go to f drive, for all available space to go to this drive you must change the bios, you cant just download it and have a drive bigger then 137 gigs be able to use all gigs beyond 137. m7 doesent support g drive either so you have to make it do so useing xbox tool, its easy, try m7. i just wish that even if you unplug your box you could plug it back in after a while and the time would still be right and you wouldent have to reset it all the time.

are you having problems getting your disk drive to work on boot up? if so could be your.ini file set up, also xbox tool allows you to enable/disable disk drive on boot up too, maybe it's you bios, try m7

And why are you useing slayers, thats your problem, no offence, setting up evolution x is so easy, and if you use evolution x you learn alot more and are able to do alot more with you xbox, auto installer is the easy way out!

IDONTKNOW,
I asked lordvader129, knows his stuff and this is what he had to say,
"might be a jumper issue, make sure the jumpers are set to cable select and that none of the sector limits are enforced"

thats it, really though, it might not be worth the time to mess with the drive anymore, how big is it anyways? I got a 250 gig drive, if you havent heard, for 150$ after rebate, thats only a 150$, consider it, you could find a 80gig drive for probly as low a 50$, seriously, check the paper. I did!
