I have a 1.0 xbox with a 55" mitsu widescreen hdtv with hd cables from monster.

I have just tried the 480p setting and i see the initial scrolling screen in crystel clear quality but when it goes to the xfce desktop it is unalbe to view. Kind of like the problems everyone else has before then run xbvset.
Unfortunately, after rerunning xbvset 3 times it still does not work for me.

I was just wondering if anyone had any luck doing so.

I have reinstalled twice and waited the 6 hours for magic to run both time screwed my desktop. xbvset not working for me. I had to hack linuxboot.cfg and change to 640x480 just to get to boot (screen looks real rough but kde or xfce will not come up

xvbset no joy anyway I try it

hmmmm

I also ran magic last night with similar results. I had no idea it would tie up my system for 5 hours. I wanted to watch a movie using XBMP but couldn't because I didn't want to stop the compiling process. In the end, nothing came up so it was all in vain. I may try to SSH into the box to see if I can fix the problem. dry.gif

Have you looked at this tutorial?

http://xbox-linux.so.../howtohdtv.html

I'm just going to wait until they include HD support into the releases.

Here is what my problem is

I download gentoox v3.0 c installs perferct

Select 800x600 and XFCE installs perfect

I run Magic until it says no updates required and wate 6 hours reboot screen scrambled

SSH in and I can run xbvset but I do not get the HDTV or X2VGA options as per Shallax post. all I get is 800x600 or 640x480 I select 800x600 reboot and screen still scrambled

I SSH again and select 640x480 XFCE still boot and XFCE still scrambled

I modify linuxbootcfg and now I can see the old crappy bit map charicters on boot but when XFCE loads screen stays for 10 second then blanks out.

Can not recover no matter what I select in xbvset

very frustrating tried 3 times with XFCE and KDE just in case but still no new driver choices.

So now I dont have linux on xbox (apart from SSH) if I run magic at all.

Give this a shot. runs rather quickly and will fix your problems with xbvset. Although I still can not get the HDTV or tv modes to work at this point. still waiting for an update from Shallax...

magic fix displaytools1 && magic fix xfcepatch1 && magic

Thank you very much that did work fixing the problem of not giving me the new options for XBVSET

so here is what I have

Sony HDTV with XBOX pluged in via composite ports - HDTV game play in HDTV Mode perfectly

HDTV - 480p mode - KDE 3.1

Screen totally scrambled and TV does not recoginese as a HDTV signal

HDTV 720p mode KDE 3.1
TV did recognise it as a HDTV signal
Screen viewable but geometry way off and with left side and bottom half not viewable
the screen is very hard to read and not very crisp as at all (looks interlaced) no where as crisp as gentoox fresh install with NTSC adn 800x600

X2VGA 720p mode KDE 3.1
Screen viewable but again overscanned did recognise as a HDTV feed

X2VGA 480p
Blank screen

TV
No choices worked any more

Think if we had the abilaty to change HOC and VOC would impreve chances (is this in XF86config file ??)

thanks again

I have yet to hear from Shallax but from what I am hearing this seems to be common. Im surprised that 720p is currently working (or lack there of) and 480p has no support. I also can not get resolution on the TV side and since I have a Mitsu. 55" hDTV widescreen, I can not get 720p since Mitsu does not support the format. Well, I hope we can get this running sooner rather then later.

Putting the overscan aside how is the resolution in 720p?

You know what picture is so fuzzy can not really comment (looks worse than normal tv mode at 800x600) but is definatly a HD feed.

Shallax was last on IRC about two days ago but I think is back at school so probably why he is scarce. Look forward to his return as he has done such a great job with this distro.

But 480p should have a resolution of 720x480 pixels and 720p is 1280x720 pixels. 1024x768 is neither so your TV probably isn't recognising it as an HDTV signal.

you can change the hoc and voc. on my normel tv thats how i got 800x600 full screen none of those dam black borders. 10.00 9.00 worked great on my 23 inch tv. so just keep playing with it untill you get good settings. also read the tut on clearing up the fonts the settings shallax says the best are pretty good on any tv. to do it in xbvset where it says -auto change it to shallex settings.

eg.

-NTSC -DIS_FFILT 0 ADPT_FF 1 DIS_YLPF 0 F_SELY 3 F_SELC 3 Y_ALTFF 2 C_ALTFF 0 Y_THRESH 2 YSELECT 1 FFRTN 1 PKFIL_SEL 3 800 600 9.00 10.00
