I currently have a 2.3B Lite+ installed on a v1.5 xbox. Current BIOS: X 4979.06

Running Evox 3935.

I will be adding a WD 160 GB HDD tomorrow.

Question is: Do I need to upgrade my BIOS to X 4981 to allow for support of 160 Gigs?

Also, is what is the difference between .06 and .67 ??

Also, I need to figure out how to flash my BIOS using Evox and Not a CD-RW... any help appreciated!

Please do a bit more searching.

The .nfo tells you the difference.

To answer your question, yes, it wil support the 160.

I've read the NFO file - doesn't say anything about supporting drives 137+ gigs.

and what are you saying YES to? smile.gif I had several questions in there!!

From the x2 4979 nfo (this bios you say you already have - so you have that nfo).
QUOTE
We have also implemented the LBA48 concept originally discovered by
OzPaul. Coded in C we used the same principals to get LBA48 working
efficiently without using any of his GPL code (We should add the
sources given to us a couple of months ago were beta and used with
OzPaulb's permission). Many of the calls in the patch were already
in the kernel source - it was simply a matter of adjusting paremeters
to add LBA48 support (man this really is a great hack) For those that
are interested we didn't use OzPaulb's partitioning system (read
partition from hdd block 0) or the highcode/lowcode system. This hack
is now embedded into our X2 source so you can use two versions of our
bios. One for LBA48 6 and one for LBA 48 6+7 (LBA48 6 is one large F
partition - recommened for new HD installs, and LBA48 6+7 is for those
who want to extend your current F drive to its larger size without
losing any data).
For those who dont know you were previousley limited
to a 137GB drive - now you can have up to 2 TB smile.gif (2199023255040 bytes)
or 2000 Gb for the *ahem* uninformed.

The hack is still entirley credited to OzPaulb.

Also...

- 4979.06 = LBA48 6
- 4979.67 = LBA48 6+7

It DOES say it supports 137+ and it tells you the difference.
Also, you posted a bios question in a chip forum. If you bothered to search in the BIOS forum....

Thanks a lot guys!!

Yes, I do have the 4979.06 BIOS installed, but I do NOT have the NFO file for 4979.
I was looking at the NFO file found in the 4981 rar pack. So, that's why I didn't see it.

So, from all that, it looks like I don't have to change my BIOS at all ! That's good news!

Thanks again!

Update:

Went to CompUSA yesterday, just hours after my above post.

Bought a 160 GB Western Digital HDD.

1. Upgraded my BIOS from 4979.06 to 4981.06 USING a Boot CD-RW

2. Installed HDD

3. Booted up with Evox Boot CD-RW (Evox.ini modified to do HD install)
(here is where I spent 1.5 hrs - kept getting Error 14 and 13)
(fix: burned dummy file to Cd-rw, fixed error 14 problem)

4. Formatted the new HDD using Evox - took 30 seconds.

5. Re-booted to Evox - Now have 150 GB free space on F: Drive.

That was very simple.

Thanks for the help!
