It's basically like your xbox serial number that is stored on the motherboard. It can be replaced. It doesn't really do anything for you. It's what is logged if you get banned from Xbox Live. You can load a new EEPROM onto the mtherboard and have a new serial number so you can get that xbox back onto Xbox Live by getting a new EEPROM.

It is also one of the factors in determining you HD lock code. (It's why you have to unlock your HD to change the EEPROM)

actually, the eeprom is more of a configuration file and an ID for your xbox, not a serial number. THe eeprom also determines your video settings (NTSC or PAL), and your DVD region. It probably does some other things, but i can't remember it all right now.

do you get an error code, or does it just not turn on? you may have erased your eeprom.

Heh. Well I'm unsure about the EEPROM options with slayer, so I'm not sure what you might have done.

You could plug it in to your computer and run LiveInfo. It'll tell you if it's locked or not.
Also,
The xbox hard drive MUST be locked if it is booting an original bios. So, if you can turn your chip off and the xbox boots, then the HD is locked. If you get Error Code #6 then it is unlocked or has the wrong lock code.

If somehow you changed your EEPROM with slayers, AND your HD was locked, then the xbox would generate a different unlock code than the HD is actually locked with. (since it was locked using the old EEPROM)
The xbox would fail to boot at this point. It should give you an error #6.

You need the EERPOM information that it waslocked with to generate the proper unlock code.

Then use LiveInfo to get the code.
Then run HDunlock and HDdisabl from a boot disk.

Those are both tools that run ON the xbox. That might be a problem at this point...
