I need to get a new dvd drive because my current one that came with the launch xbox is getting bit old and has been scratching my disks. Well, is there any particular drive that works best with the Xbox? I've checked at newegg.com and and am looking at getting the Lite-On Black 16X DVD-ROM Drive for $30 since it seems to be the most popular. Also, if I installed the mod chip will I be able to change dvd drives without installing any of the BIOS, EvoX software first? Could I change drives and then burn the EvoX file to a regular CD instead of using a CD-RW like with the original dvd drive?

If you buy a PC DVD drive, you do not need to do any other mod prior to install. Be aware, however, that a PC drive will not be able to read your original discs, only backups. If you want to be able to read originals, you should get the modified Samsung 616t or a replacement stock xbox drive. They are more expensive than that PC DVD drive you are looking at though.
