hello all, glad to have found this forum, specifically the newb section...

my XBOX has a dvd-rom drive that has been giving me problems. i was thinking it was going to be a paperweight until i heard something about putting games on the hdd and playing them from there...

this would be great, but i am very new and am wondering what i need to do to make this happen.

i have DL'd DVD2XBOX and FLASHXP, do i need a mod-chip?

please be patient with me!

You don't need a modchip though it is recommended. You can just flash your TSOP. Take a look in that forum and read the pinned topics to get you started.

Yes. Actually installing the programs and such may not be more difficult since he could hook a pc DVD drive up to install EVox and such. My conecrn is that a reg PC drive wont read games. So ripping them to the hd is gonna be a bitch.

On a side note I've got a Thomson DVD drive that still reads perfectly up for sale. It's not that hard to swap out a DVD drive on these systems. And then your problems go away. PM if interested.
