Hardware : Xbox V1.4
                 SmartXX
                 LCD from www.crystalfontz.com model CFAH2004ATMIJP
(If you haven't purchased an LCD yet then try to get one that has a
small mounting as you may have problems with fitting it in your box,
                 like I did tongue.gif )

SmartXX LCD wiring that does work :
SmartXX Pin 1 is in the centre to the right of the jumper pins.
LCD pin 1 is next to the corner (pin 16 is in the middle)

cool.gif Always remember to check your contrast dial on your SmartXX if you have not text showing on the LCD. If your using HDD cable (or any other multi strand cable wink.gif ) check you have no stray strands and this also has been raised as a problem on other forums.

If you require a wiring diagram please send me a mail to xbox@nichollz.co.uk

I've really been thinking of replacing the old chameleon with a smartxx chip for a while now just so I could add a LCD. Any diagrams or tuts would be great.

Nikolz. Can you post the exact dimensions of the cutout for the LCD please. I want a real world measurement to back up the data sheet.

I don't want to cut a hole in my new aluminum case before I double check. I don't have the chip or the panel yet and won't for a couple of weeks but case work is in progress.

Do you have to use the ugly plastic trim to mount it?

Cheers

There's a tut in the smartxx forum that has a couple pics. It's in a zip file several posts down. Here's the link to it....

Is the "no text" issue common? I just ordered my crystalfontz yesterday but i'd like to get as much heads up as possible before starting the install. What cable is recommended so far? I guess i should search the forum before asking these questions. Feel free to flame me.

Edit: damn, had to update my signature. it's a smartxx now.

tarheelsnipe : not sure if you've finished yours yet but to answer your question -
IDE / CAT5 / wrapping wire is fine.
and if you don't have any characters displayed that normaly means you need to change your contrast on your SmartXX, it is very accurate though so you only need to turn it about 1/10 mm at a time sad.gif

piccies of mine so far, as you can see I used wax to secure the wires blink.gif :

I'm with you. I want to find out what you have to modify to get the Crystalfontz LCD to fit in the xbox.

yeah man. I`m still wondering how to cut that big ass crystl fonts PCB. It's freaking big. Although we all know that we can order that super small lcd from lcd-module.de but it's too expensive. I also know that if we can get bulk, there's a taiwan company that sells these type of lcd's just as small for about 5 usd each!! but it has to be bulk. I wonder how he cut the case as well! c`mon man! REPLY!!! We`re all waiting crazy like mad for the way you cut your lovely case! It looks soo good!

Hmm. Suppliers. Actually I`ve been doing some research. From what i know, LCD-MODULE.DE sell the same screens @ gamestore24.de's website. However, minimum order 30 Euros. And @ gamestore24.de they sell it for 28. But there is no other payment methods. So. It's quite a hassel. Another very very cheap alternative would be the taiwan made screens. Just as good. And it cost 5usd each! Same colour and same size as gamestore24.de web site. But, there is a huge quantity issue. So that's the problem. But if there are enough ppl who wants these screens, i might place order.
