Well I just got done hacking my Tivo and it no longer encrypts the video and I can now get the video off it. The files are called .ty files. These files are just mpeg2 files in a slightly different format. Since it is a compressed format it will degrade when I convert it to a regular mpeg2 file. I don't want this so I was hoping that I could play them on my Xbox.

So does anybody know if this has been done or can be?

Yes, XBMC can play ty files, it can even stream the video directly from a networked tivo.
Another point though, converting ty files to mpeg-2 does not degrade the quality at all. As you said yourself ty files are just mpeg2 in a slightly different format, and converting them to mpeg2 is a case of changing the ty format to comply with the mpeg2 format, not reencoding, so there is no quality loss.

So does XMC have native support for .ty files or do I need to download a .dll or something to get it to work?
