Dvd Roms Replacement Questions :)
Posted 13 April 2004 - 03:10 AM
I'm getting it replaced because it just will not load any dvd movie or game I put in.
I'm thinking of getting a Philips Drive would this be better then the thompson?
also the guy selling me the drive said it's pretty easy to replace the drive.
Is there a help tutorial that could assit me?

just disconnect the ide and power cable from the hd. there is a screw in between the hd and dvd, remove it. take the power cable from the side of hd. pull the hd out. on the dvd drive there are 2 screws on the front sides of the drive, remove them. unplug the cables from dvd. take out dvd. put new drive in. connect everything back and put screws back. your good to go. u can also check tuts Here

In order of compatiblity 1 being the best.
P.S. this is not just my opinion because i have a samsung but 95% of people would agree with me.
Hope this helps in your choice of drive also you'll probably notice this order with price comparison for a replacement unit as well.

I basicly want a new drive that can do dvdr - and + and maybe cdr rw,so the phillips would do this for me.
Or should spend more and get a samsung thing?

If you have the money the Samsung is the best, people will tell you they do not play DVD+R but i have never found that to be correct.
