hi guys, I've got a 1.0 xbox with a evo3 mod and the dvd rom which I got in atm is a thompson.

I'm getting it replaced because it just will not load any dvd movie or game I put in.

I'm thinking of getting a Philips Drive would this be better then the thompson?

also the guy selling me the drive said it's pretty easy to replace the drive.

Is there a help tutorial that could assit me?

thx

Josh

i did the same and haven't had a problem with the philips. its easy to change the drive a few screws and cables to disconnect.

just disconnect the ide and power cable from the hd. there is a screw in between the hd and dvd, remove it. take the power cable from the side of hd. pull the hd out. on the dvd drive there are 2 screws on the front sides of the drive, remove them. unplug the cables from dvd. take out dvd. put new drive in. connect everything back and put screws back. your good to go. u can also check tuts Here

to be perfectly honest i have a samsung which loads 98% of stuff i throw at it
In order of compatiblity 1 being the best.

1. Samsung
2. Phillips
3. Thompson

P.S. this is not just my opinion because i have a samsung but 95% of people would agree with me.

Hope this helps in your choice of drive also you'll probably notice this order with price comparison for a replacement unit as well.

I agree with the order of that. Read loads about the Thomson not being too good but in the newer ones I have chipped they all seem ok, read evox cdr-w and + and - DVD so maybe its the earlier ones that are the worst. The new Philips ones are really noise when you put a disc in and seem to be more picky than early Philips. Lot of new boxes I have seen have these new Philips units

thx for replys,

I basicly want a new drive that can do dvdr - and + and maybe cdr rw,so the phillips would do this for me.

Or should spend more and get a samsung thing?

Philips will do that for you. I have a version1.1 in the kids room with an old Philips drive in it and it still plays everything thrown at it.
If you have the money the Samsung is the best, people will tell you they do not play DVD+R but i have never found that to be correct.

I'm trying to put my new game race driver 2 on the HD, so if I put the dvd burn in can I put it in there and send files to hd.
