ahoy
i wanna unlock a hdd from a dead 1.0 motherboard, can i go ahead and put the eeprom from the dead mobo into the 1.3? or is there eeprom compatability issues that wouldn't let me do this?

Well if you're talking about swapping the eeprom chips, I imagine that it should be the same for each version, but I'm not completely sure. Now if you have a backup of your eeprom, then yes, you can just use config magic to put the 1.0's eeprom on the 1.3.

hmm, it didn't like it. the 1.3 turned on but stayed black. coulda been my soldering but i got the original back in and its ok now. oh well, they're just tiny 8 gig hdds anyway, not worth the effort.

the 1.3 stayed black? Are you sure they were in the same video region? Was there any sound?

dunno if there was sound, no video, both were ntsc. theres a chance the eeprom is bunk...the xbox it came from was properly f00ked. it would frag twice then goto a black screen. i've tried grounding a18/a19 to boot from half the tsop, didn't do anything. now i think i might take the tsop right out and see if i can get it to boot from a cheapmod.

you cannot hardwire a 1.0 eeprom in a 1.3 xbox

1.0 eeproms will only work in 1.0 box's

1.1 - 1.5 eeproms will work in any except 1.0

Male Steer Droppings!

I'm playing on XBLIVE on an 1.1 NTSC Xbox using an 1.0 XPROM image from a PAL Xbox.

I first loaded the old EEPROM into config magic. Wrote down all the values.

I then loaded the NEW EEPROM into config magic.

I then saw that the region varied, and would have potentially screwed up my machine. I MANUALLY inserted the exact string I saw on the old (banned) 1.1 EEPROM into CONFIG magic, and wrote out the EEPROM code.

Voila!

Instant non-banned Xbox.

(Note for anyone who may misinterpret this, the 1.0 PAL EEPROM was never banned, so this is not a way around this problem...)

thats not an issue with him because he is physically trying to swap the eeproms, in which my statement about compatibility is still true.
