Well i bought a 120 GB HDD and my friend put it in my xbox, i switched mod chips because it wouldn't play newer games, and wasn't flashable. But the new mod chip fricked something up and now the xbox doesn't work. So while im waiting for my allowance to accumulate to the price of an xbox i want to use it as storage. It is hooked up to my computer as slave and the other is set as master with slave. My PC boots as normal and my bios lists it as there.
But in My Computer it doesn't show up next to the C: drive where it should be. I had just deleted a 5 GB game so i checked my C: properties and clicked the hardware tab and it was listed in there. This made me wonder more, that if windows knew it was there then why didn't it recognize it.

I just want to use it for storage, then when the new xbox arrives put it back into there.

This isn't really the right forum for this.

Moving to General Hardware Forum.

10 to 1 your HD is locked, yo uneed to unlock it before windows can access it

either that or it needs to be formatted

I'd go with format if I where you... Most HDD Manufacturors provide software to format the drive with if they didn't give you any just go to tthe manufacturors site and they'll probably have a free download

XP doesn't understand the Xbox partition structure.

You'll need to repartition the drive.

2. Youre drive is locked unlock itor boot-swap.
3. open an XTERM type "su -" without quotes
4. type fdisk /dev/hdX
X=a primary master
X=b secondary master
X=c primary channel 2
X=d secondary channel 2
5. hit p

Eh, I like Linux, but why go thru downloading and burning Knoppix when he has XP around and installed?

Sorta silly.

All he needs to do is go to the Drive management snap-in to MMC.
