i cant give a pic, but i can describe it a bit better: the straight pin is pretty deep in the hole and it cant be pushed through the other side. the pin is one of those insect mounting pins. i tried to grab it with a pair of hemostats but its below the level of the mobo. About the only way i can see to get it out is to drill it out but i dont like that idea. and it cant be soldered either...how can the lights on the chip d be dimmed when the ground is unconnected? could i have caught another ground from pushing the pin too deep?

I don't quite understand what the problem.

If this happen on the mobo, try to clean it up, and use alternate D0 point.

If this happen on the x2.3pro, why dont you just desolder the port, and do hard wire on the D0 and the ground point.

Like heet said, maybe a picture ?

http://www.teamxecut...23b_pro_pin.htm

scroll down, you'll see the D0 point located at the bottom of the mobo (alternate d0 point)

07 could mean two things:

bad IDE cable - try another one
bad HDD - buy an unlocked one from somewhere.

To paraphrase a recent wonderful movie series... "there is always hope".

Yeah this is a common problem as the OEM cables do not seem to hold up too well.
