How many of Solderless Blue Adapter owners have been forced to use the paper folding trick?

That is what I would like to know.

More about the Paper trick here: Troubleshooting Xenium Adapter Tricks.

EDIT: I was so kind as also thinking of the ppl without the adapter.
Gave them also possibility to vote:

Good thing you added that third option.

I don't have a solderless adapter, and that's for a very good reason -> pogos are evil. They're designed for temporary connections, not for permanent installations (IMO).

Well, actually the reason is that I can solder (pretty well) and I have the equipment. So for me there would be no reason on earth to use an install method that is inferior to soldering.

I understand however that there are people who don't have the tools or the means for soldering and they also have the wisdom to know their limits. For these people solderless adapter is of course a better alternative than soldering themselves. Also my purpose is not to make anyone feel bad about not soldering the chip nor am I suggesting that people who can't solder are inferior to me. Everybody has their own things that they are good at and soldering is naturally among that list for majority of people.

By the looks of the numbers I would say there is a serious problem. I personaly believe solderless has ruined more Xboxes than any other cause.

I have had to use the trick on 2 different xbox with the adapter. I had to use a toothpick on a 1.0 that has the LPC holes filled. I just used paper on a 1.4, but I did it in the beginning and didn't try to install without it. I have had no problems with it since.

I wish I could solder better or I would have done that.

I never knew people had soo many problems with it. I have 2 xboxes with the xenium solderless and i did not need to use alcohol or the paper mod and they are both working find. Hell ive shaked the crap out of one of the xbox and it still works after that. I just think people are not tightning the solderless piece tight enough. I screwed mine in as hard as possible granted i was being carefull not to crack it lol

How'd you do the toothpick? I'm having difficulty for my 1.0 as well.

If I was you I would not try to poke out the holes.
You may break all of the solder surface away from the hole and then you will have trouble fixing it without solder.

Use it on your teeth instead. biggrin.gif

Just kidding.

Did you try using thicker paper or folding the paper more times to make the stuff thicker. It would then lift the adapter further up and possibly it works.

I agree, i had an xecuter solderless and it literally destroyed my mobo (i fixed it with some nifty conductive paint biggrin.gif). The Xenium adapter pissed me off so bad, i sprouted some testicles and soldered the damn thing down...and guess what, no freakin' problems anymore. Also, if you're constantly modding, and take your mobo out on a regular basis, don't use solderless, you're more liable to destroy something (in my experience)
