I installed Evox a while back in November, everything runs perfectly and how i want so im not going to play with anything as i dont wanna run the risk of fecking anything up...

i have a xecuter2 chip, (external switches n a blue LED) therefore the chip can be turned off...

can you turn off the chip so it will boot up to the MS dashboard?

because when i turn it off and boot up now i get an error msg, so its just on all the time and always boots to EvoX...

can anyone help me here?

thanks
peter

(probly sounds really dumb)

It would help to know which Error number you get.

It's most likely 13 or 6.
6 means your hard drive isn't locked.
13 means your original M$ dashboard files are screwed up.

So, if you're running with a chip, you should have evox named evoxdash.xbe and the ms dash named xboxdash.xbe.

The reason it gives error 13 when you boot with the chip disabled is the retail bios looks for xboxdash.xbe, which in your case is Evox. It won't work that way.

You should probably change a setting in the evox.ini to look for your ms dash as xboxdash.xbe too instead of msxboxdash.xbe.

I don't know why when people put a chip in they do all this dashboard renaming crap. Is that from Slayers? The only reason to rename your default MS dash is if you want to run a FONT exploit. that's it. period.

no i found a tutorial on XS and it told me to do that... can't remember who it was buy...

so if i rename xboxdash.xbe to evoxdash.xbe it will boot that with the chip on?

and if i rename msxboxdash to xboxdash it will boot that when off and it wont screw up?

Well, that tutorial was probably for a font exploit.

It should boot to evoxdash.xbe. If you want to be safe and check, get the bios that you are using on your chip and load it into XBTool. Look at the boot order and filenames. If it's something like the 4981, the default settings are
1. avalaunch.xbe
2. evoxdash.xbe
3. mxmdash.xbe
4. i don't remember
5. xboxdash.xbe
(well, it something like this anyway.)

It eventually boots into evox because you have evox named xboxdash.xbe (which is at the bottom of the list because it's supposed to default to the original dash if it can't find any other homebrew dash.)

Also, even if you do rename the dash files and it won't boot to a dashboard, with your chip on, you'll still be able to boot with a boot disc.

EDIT:

Yesm the default MS bios ALWAYS boots to xboxdash.xbe. So, as long as the msxboxdash.xbe is actually the original xboxdash.xbe file and your HD is locked, you should be fine. (you might want to make sure to backup your EEPROM before hand too. Just in case...)

Yes what you did was correct for a old Gen 1 mod chip bios
the newer bios has multi boot options first evoxdash then avalsomthing
then xboxdash.xbe last so with chip on it will find evoxdash first and with
off m$ bios looks for xboxdash.xbe

Remember, there's never any stupid questions, only stupid people. j/k

How did you flash your modchip? You want to use the bios that is currently on your modchip. I think that if you have the backup feature on Evox, it'll create a backup folder on your C drive with a bios.bin in it which is a copy of the bios from your chip.

Otherwise, the bios.bin on your C drive isn't necessarily the same bios that's flashed onto your chip. I can't tell you how that got there and what it is.

Once you do find the proper bios.bin though, Open Xbtool, and then Open that Bios in it.
