This is probably a dumb question, but I can't figure out how to convert my video to WMV 8. I was messing with Windows Media Encoder, and it didn't seem to have what I needed.

Then I downloaded STOIK, since that seemed to be what people wer eusing to get the job done... but whenever I select WMV as the output-type, it only gives me a bunch of profiles for encoding, but without any mention of the WMV 8 format. It's just a bunch of generic speed/quality settings.

Am I missing something completely? I feel like kind of a tool, as this seems like one of the easier parts of skinning, but hell, I'm stuck.

If someone could point in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. With the search function perpetually down, I'm 20 or so pages into the boards, and I'm still stuck.

Can anybody get me started? Many thanks in advance.

download the windows media encoder 9 series. (get the wmv7, 8, 9 codec pack bundle too)

once you have the codecs installed, and 9 encoder installed.

go to the place you isntalled the encoder to. you will see a Profile Editor in the folder.

(C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\Encoder\WMProEdt.exe)

Run that and create the profile you want.

my recommendation... use
WMA9 audio,
WMV8 Video,
500Kbps, (you need to enter 500K in the program)
320x240
audio 96 kbps @ 48kHz

fill in all the rest of the information. Then Save it.
Save as WMV8 500bps or something so you know what settings you used.

Once you have it saved. find the profile you created and copy it to the same directory as Stoik.

start Stoik.. scroll all the way to the bottom of the profile list and choose to BROWSE for profile.

the rest you should be able to figure out.

Ah, I see I wasn't even kind of close to getting it right.

Thanks a bunch for the prompt reply, it's greatly appreciated. I'm off to download, and hopefully, that should be enough to get things rolling.

Thanks again.
