I am having a hell of a time trying to figure out how I would rename thousands of files without screwing the name up. I have tried quite a few but most either delete the needed info such as what disk, or the name of the game. So for example if I have:

Froggy & 'Z' Man (1983)(DJL Software)[Compilation](Tape 1A).zip
Froggy & 'Z' Man (1983)(DJL Software)[Compilation](Tape 1B).zip

Either the whole name in the front is gone, or the infomation at the end telling me which disk is gone..

I would preffer something like this:

Froggy & 'Z' Man (1983)(Tap 1A).zip
Or even like this:
Froggy & 'Z' Man (Tape 1A).zip

I suppose I could burn them to a dvd but I think it would be a waste, and I'm not even sure my xbox (v1.0) will read a burned dvd.

Anyone have some ideas?

use something like romcenter

or just rename it yourself

i renamed it myself for awhile because i wanted it just right

and yes your xbox v1.0 should read a burned dvd, it just depends which one, most of them work

and even if it was on a cd\dvd you would still have to rename your stuff

just to let you know

file names must be 42 characters or less

and no odd characters such as < > \ | = + * , " ' ; :
stuff like that

I had the same problem, I needed a rom renamer, but nothing out there did what I wanted. So I made my own smile.gif If you using OS X or *nix you can use my program at http://home.comcast....ka/batchzip.zip, I have a better description of the program in this thread http://forums.xbox-s...ic=235999&st=45, it's all command line though, but it does stuff the way I wanted it to.

For example I'll use the rom you supplied...

Froggy & 'Z' Man (1983)(DJL Software)[Compilation](Tape 1A).zip

would be: Froggy & 'Z' Man.zip

A quick last note though, it expects the files to be in an unzipped format because it zips the files with the goodrom name, but the zip file's name is the shortened one.

I've been using a combination of a program called Tugid (uses tosec naming conventions) but it has a feature to simplify the name and BArename.

Since Tugid does not always get it right I use BArename to do the rest.

The nice thing about BArename is that it will show which files need renaming and what the new name will be. It also has a "remove this and replace with" function which can come handy in situations like the one you mentioned above.

But even then the names tend to get mangled.

Luckily the goodtools are far better at renaming stuff into xbox format.

I may experiment more with Tugid. Supposedly you can customize the renaming a little more. But I was in a hurry to get as much on my Xbox as possible before leaving town.

Problem is goodtools do not cover EVERY system....

As for barename. I found it right here at xbox-scene.com
