Hi,
I'm thinking of maybe getting a DVD burner. I've been offered a Panasonic LF-D311 DVD Burner for 160 and was wandering if it was any good. It seems to be a bit cheap compared to other drives which is why I'm wandering if it's worth spending more and getting a pioneer or sony.

cheers

that drive works very well actually , I have one [ it is 1xDVD-Ram and 1xDVD-R ] . I also have had the Pioneer A03 and have a Sony DRU-500a . I use the Panasonic for almost all my Xbox needs and it works like a charm on almost any cheapo DVD-R media smile.gif . The DVD-Ram feature is superior to just about any other removable storage device out there , it works just like a Hard drive and you can swap the dvd-ram carts/discs whenever you want [ hot swap ] . I would say that for the money you can get one of these drives for [ under $100.00 usd if you look ] they are the best buy for a DVD burner .
Best of Luck ,

Dont do it!!! For that money you should be able get one of the DVD+R/RW or DVD-R/RW drives.

This drive is a very slow single speed DVD-R writer, and DVD-RAM is not compatible with any set top DVD players or the xbox. Only other DVD-RAM drives will be able to read your DVD-RAM discs.

I love being able to experiment with game compilations etc on my rewriteable DVD+RW discs, and try them in my xbox, before comitting to write once media. You wont be able to do this.

I have the same burner, and it does the job. I would say it is fine if you can get it for cheap, but otherwise I would go for a model that supports DVD-RW instead, just because Xbox do not read DVDRAM. Therefore, with the Panasonic, you won't have a chance to test your new isos. If the Iso is bad, you'll have a coaster. WIth a DVDRW, you'll be able to test.

Why the fuck wouild you want it (xbox) to read DVD-RAM?
basicly DVD-RAM is like a freggin HDD, there is no substitute...

Can you say 9 GiGs for 6 buX?

oh, and XBMP plays everything off of it
i would say, get it, if its the right price!
