Ok so heres what Im thinking

Maxtor/WD 200gig 7200rpm 8mb drive (lockable via big list)
80mm fan (any good places to get?)
Xecuter 2.3BLite + or maybe X3 solderless if its out soon enough
Programmer Switch (is this even needed?)

I have a 1.1 box and samsung dvd drive.
This all sound about right? I am really ansy to start modding the box but I know the x3 is around the corner. Grr.

Thanks

You don't need the X3 or the fan really.

Just go with the 2.3

Remember to read read read before you even THINK about opening up that box mister!

wont the 7200rpm drive make the the xboxs life shorter? i read about making the stock one run faster but i figured swapping out is less 'ghetto'?

also the x3 has no real advantages for me?

i just wanna be able to:
back up like 100games or so
play mp3s from the box
maybe use a little for storage

thats it
oh and ext on/off switch for xbox live

7200 drives generate a bit more heat but nothing significant. You can use the stock fan at stock speed with no problems (just make sure your xbox is in a ventillated area). I run my fan at 40% instead of the standard 20% and this is plenty to get rid of any extra heat.

Sounds like the X3 would make no difference to you - the newer 4th gen chips are for people who want to have low-level access to all the hardware features and easy configuration. For most people, once it is setup, these things won't ever be touched again. Your choice.

If you want to backup 'a 100 games' you will probably need at least a 250 or 300gb HD. A 200gb HD is probably good for around 75 average sized games.
Of course you will be purchasing all original copies of these games, won't you... cool.gif

Exactly =P

Ok I was gonna go solderless but now Im thinking the 2.3B lite with the Xapter. Well still solderless I guess but supposedly works better. Any thoughts? Also do I need a new ATA cable? Thanks

The 2.3B Lite + works fine. I'd suggest getting a ATA 133 cable, they help load times quite a bit. You'll be amazed. Also, be sure to check out the back up games forum so you can see what files you can delete from your backed up games so you can store more on your HD.
