I am having a problem.

I follow this word for word but when i run the linux prog i get to the 1-4 choices if i choose no.3 it goes to the unlock/lock bit then use hdunlock -a and it says drive is unlocked but hten just returns to the command prompt. If i select option 1 (VGA) then it goes all the way to where you choose yes/no do you want to to this disk i choose yes and it just goes back to command prompt.

I know i can do it as i have done it before!!!

lol i solved this by typing yes instead of y!!!!!!

LOL,

Excellent Tutorial mate. Works a treat. I thought I'd try it on an old 20G Western Digital that I didn't mind destroying. I used the softmod to mod my original xbox hard drive quite some time ago, and have XBMC loaded. I installed ConfigMagic to the xbox, and made a backup of the eeprom. Ftp'd that to my PC and renamed the files from "EEPROMbackup.bin" to "EEPROM.bin" etc.

Copied the files to a floppy disk, and booted my PC with that groovy linux CD made ages ago.
Mounted the floppy in linux (mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /floppy)
Ran xboxhdm and prepared the 20GB Hard drive for the xbox and copied all the files using the automated tool, then selected option6, then option 7.

Rebooted PC with the floppy and locked the hard drive from there.

Insterted the 20G drive in my xbox and once that "Microsoft" text appeared at the bottom, the joyful feeling spread. Seconds later I was greeted with the good old XBMC screen.

SWEET, no more modchip purchases for me now biggrin.gif , and time to run the tools again on a 400GB drive.

-->KegRaider. (xlink Kai tag too)

I realize this post is a bit old but i hope its not too old...
So i can make a new xbox hdd totally from scratch using this? because my xbox hdd is broken - not the files being messed up - but the hdd itself is broken.
if i was to go buy a new hdd thats say 80gb i could use these tools and make a replacement xbox hdd without needing to copy files from my own xbox?

Hi,

you will need the original M$dash files of the 5960 dash. You can use the slayers rescue iso and extract it. It contains all the files you need. I use the qwix program to extract xiso's.

in case of a softmod, you will also need the kingroach ndure 3.1 package, and you need the xbox eeprom.bin file to lock the drive.

regards.

you need the xbox eeprom.bin file to lock the drive.

If no eeprom.bin, build the eeprom reader.
http://forums.afterd...view.cfm/357863

recipe for a complete xbox hdd rebuild with softmod:
dash 5960 from slayer's + kingroach ndure + eeprom -> locked xbox hdd softmodded.
Chef of the day? xboxhdm.

Bon Appetit!

I assume you are trying to hotswap your xbox harddisk.

Do you have the harddisk connected as primary ide master device and the cdrom as secundary ide master device?

Maybe you only have 1 ide port on your pc mobo? Most new mobo's are like that.

Ldotsfan made a tutorial to boot xboxhdm from a USB stick. It is in the pinned topics of the General Hardware / Technical Chat.

But, the easiest method would be to find another old pc with 2 ide connectors. (If my assumptions are correct)

regards.

Place it back into the xbox and see if you have an error 7. If you have, the hdd is a casualty of too much hotswapping.
