But the computer can't get any contact with the drive. Is it really possible to recover the files then? And how?

There are no files to recover they're still there. From what you described, just the board is damaged. if you were to attach that drive to another working pc with bios you'll see there's nothing wrong with it.

It looks like I miswrote. I didn't mean my bios was broken, I completely refered to my hdd. Bad writing. The other hdd's still get recognized by the bios. but this one refuse to and I'm therefore (pretty) certain it's broken.

Actually, after reading your post again, it was quite clear you were talking about the hdd. Bad reading on my part.tongue.gif

Yikes.. I don't know what to say to that, maybe it can be repaired though, look into it.

OMG. I'M SO HAPPY... I have no idea why it wasn't found by the second IDE cable, but believe it or not, I just happened to discover that the Primary IDE cable had been unattached from the mainboard laugh.gif WOW, sometimes we all make these stupid mistakes and all one can do is laugh at it. Anyway, I'm really glad it's working. But the 20gb is still frozen no matter what I do.

I can at least say that putting the hd in another pc (at least if it's not a compaq) will make it unfrozen, as it did to mine. But why wouldn't I stumble upon more problems dry.gif I ran "build a hd from scratch" and then I installed UDE, BUT during the ude-installation it claimed I missed some files in C, but it did some compressed image of C. Anyways, when I ran it on the box it started in the regular msdash. And then I inserted mechassault and try to run up evox from there, but it started up something called ltools and I had two options, both of them was called mechassault, and both of them gave me error 21.

I suppose I added wrong files when I made the cd with xboxhdm. Can someone tell what files should be in root C:\ and some other directories? I only have xboxdash.xbe, and I didn't get more when I installed UDE from xboxhdm, I'm pretty sure there should be more.

Ldots: You said you would update it to include locking/unlocking in the xboxhdm-menu. I just want to say that you should make the installation of UDE possible in there as well, otherwise you've locked it before UDE's been installed. Just a tip if you hadn't thought of it already.

If I clone my XB original HD (which I've softmodded and put a few movies on) onto a 120GB drive and then format the F-partition on the new drive, will that work?

...or does cloning the original drive keep the partition tables, in which case, the F-drive wouldn't be able to use the full space of the 120GB?

you should make the hd from scratch, if you clone you will only get 10gb as your original hd.
