1)a xip file containing the skin - example = SomeSkinName.xip
2)a xbx with is the screen preview for the skin = SomeSkinName.xbx
3)a preset file which contains the hex values for the dash for that skin = SomeSkinName.xbx
It seems confusing that both the screen preview xbx and the preset xbx are named the same thing. Many skin designers do not include the screen preview. You have to open it to be absolutely sure of its contents.
In order to use a skin..the xip goes in the skins folder...the xbx preset goes in the preset folder. The screen preview xbx is added to the xip titled screenshots.xip. Also in the screenshots.xip you will see a default.xap. If you want to add the preview for the skin to the dash you must open this xap in WinXip and add a block of code to the bottom of the xap and save. Once you do this once it is very easy and there are many people who can help you in the channel. It is important that the xip, the preset xbx and the screenshot xbx all be named the same thing or it wont work. If you added everything properly which should take you about 1 minute...it will add the skin name to the menu with the screenshot and will load when you press a.
