I'm curious....who keeps thier stock fan at a 100% and for how long has it been kept at that setting? The reason I'm asking is becuase I'm thinking about setting mine at that but I heard that it shortens the fan's life and would like to see if that's really true or not.

the fan is actually made to run at 12volts, not 7 like MS wires it.

You could always use an LED or another 80 mm fan too

Case fans are suppose to run at 12V/100%. Besides, how much is a replacement fan? If you have a faster (and hotter) hard drive in you box, you have to make a choice. Do I want to shorten the life of my fan by running at 100%, or do I want to shorten the life of my hard drive by not running my fan at 100% and letting it overheat? The choice is yours!

I took out my green led fan, too much trouble and drained power with all my other doo dads on the xbox (2 green cathodes - now just 1 ring) 12v relay, etc

I do, but upgraded to 12v. Cooling isn't that big of a deal for me, even with an upgraded hard drive.

I did the 80mm fan(used a medium powered Panalfow) mod on my old Xbox but I wasn't impressed with the cooling temps. When I moded my friends Xbox I found that his temps and fan noise weren't much different than mine so when I bought a new Xbox I just kept the stock fan.
