Just bought a used xbox under as is terms. Well it's not working properly. The dvd drive tray will only open up part of the time. The weird thing is I hooked up my samsung drive from another xbox that works perfectly and I had the same result. Also the xbox wasn't displaying any video so I figured it was really messed up, but one time when I powered it on it booted correctly and played the game I had in the system. I'm thinking there is more than one issue, but I figure this community is the best place to use a sounding board.

Thanks

Jeff

alright so I have some more info. I tried switching countless parts between the two xbox's to isolate the problem with no success. I did discover this if I let the xbox set while on for about 3-5 minutes, when I turn it off and back on it works everytime. Video displays perfectly, drive tray ejects, and it reads/loads game discs. I was thinking power supply? Like something on there is screwed buy can function once it heats up? COME ON GUYS! HELP ME!

Well working one is a v1.5 and broken one is a v1.0. I don't think these are interchangable.

1.0uses AT power supply, and 1.1-1.6 uses atx.

yu could just take a PSU from an old pentium box, if you have one. go to a local coputer shop and ask for one. they will probably give it to you for free, as they are about useless.

Well I was looking around ebay and I see some new v1.0 power supplies. The buy it now price is like 10 bucks. I guess for that it isn't worth the hassle of going to the computer shop. If it doesn't work I guess I could just have a spare psu on hand. I just wish there was a way to test it with the things I have on hand.
