The longest one I know was The Legend of Dragoon, 3 years! But it's well worth the wait. It's such a great game I still play it now! Don't post Duke Nukem Forever, this game's never gonna come out.

I think I heared a while back that they started metal gear solid when the psx was announced. not sure how long it was between psx release date and MGS release date tho

more info:
PSX released in 1995
MGS Release Date: September 30, 1998

Here they say Metal Gear Solid was four years in development.

When I read the topic title, I automatically thought of Duke, but you already beat me to the punch. laugh.gif

Four years, I think.

Warcraft III (PC) took about 4-5 years or so. Daikitana (sp?) took forever too.

The Dreamcast
title Shenmue cost over
$20 million to develop. The
project took seven years,
and was the brainchild of Yu
Suzuki, the head of Sega's
game-development
AM2 division.

You can never really tell. 7 years for Max Payne, how do you know they constantly worked on it or how much time per day they put into it. I think we wont know until some one finds out how many man hours went into making it.

How was halo being developed for several platforms if it's solely for the xbox?

Halo was originally being developed for the Mac, before MS bought out Bungie.
