When is the best/easiest time to change out a HD? I'm fixing to put in a mod chip, should I wait and do it after, or before, or when?

you will have to wait till after, cause you have to unlock the hdd before you can put in a new one.

the earlier the better, if you ask me....as long as you're comfortable having the knowledge to do everything and troubleshoot.

After you put your modchip in you can use a disk like Slayers to then format the new hdd that your going to put in.

Thanks. So I should just do it at the same time as the modchip install? Or would it matter to do it after?

One more thing, I'm a little confused on which tutorial I would need to use Slayer's to do a HD swap? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Your going to have to wait till you have the mod chip in first b/c without the chip, your not going to be able to read the hard drive. Then it would be wise to back up your original hard drive before you put the new one in.

I would fit the chip 1st. Then set use Slayer on your old HD to set up Evox etc. That way you can FTP to get all your old save games (E:\UDATA) and any music you've saved (E:\TDATA\FFFE000\MUSIC\). Then when the new one is fitted you can put them all back on it.

To be safe I always back-up the whole of C:\ and E:\ when installing new HDs. Then I just transfer the whole lot back over as 2 folders. Easy!

Something else to remember, if your fitting a +137GB HD then you need a bios that will support it. Most new ones do.

If using a HD bigger than 137GB then you also need to consider weather you want :

1 big F:\ drive using all the available space

or

F:\ up to 137GB and the rest on G:\

I turn off G:\ on most I do so there's just 1 big F:\

I find there's less clutter. I also put all apps in F:\apps leaving E:\ with all it's available space for music saved via M$dash.

If you need any more help just let me know.

So install the mod chip and EvoX, backup the original, then swap them?

Which tuturial do I need to read on how to actually swap them with the modchip and EvoX?

Don't forget, it helps so much if you have a boot disk of some kind. X-Disk, Slayer or just plain Evox.

Once you have backed the old hdd up to your pc and you want to swap to the new hdd, all you need to do is take the old 1 out and plug in the new drive. Then run Slayers disk to format the drive and install Evox. Then you can ftp back accross any game saves or music that you want.
