I'm looking to buy an Xbox to mod myself. But I've heard that the new 1.6's can be a pain to mod, and I've got a friend with experience modding a 1.5, so I'd like to go with that.

So does anyone have any ideas about picking up an older version xbox? Are there any good online dealers who deal in this sort of thing? Should I look for a refurbished model (those probably wouldn't be new enough to be 1.6, right?). Or should I not even worry, and go with a 1.6? Is it really that much harder?

Thanks for the help!

1.5s are hard to find and extremely rare... but they are still a pain to mod.... less than a 1.6 of course laugh.gif

you will have to more or less get lucky... or get a refurbished or used xbox...

Its not all that much harder just a few extra wires to solder,...

on the otherhand if you cant solder and are looking at a solderless solution get a used xbox.

Really? That's not bad then, I've soldered plenty before, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Seems that ebgames sells refurbished xboxes, so I might go with them, depending on how tough it seems to do a new one.

edit: Ok, so the soldering part is a bit harder with 1.6, but what about the software stuff (dashboard, ftping, etc)? That's what I'm really worried about...

only dif on a 1.6

is 5 extra wires to solder since you have to rebuild the LPC

and 2

you have to use the latest Bioses like the M8, other than that all software is and runs the same

if your good at soldering its no hassle at all
