I live in the UK, but on the Xbox's November release in the US my Dad was on business and I asked him to pick me one up rather than wait for the UK March release.

I am now getting alot of DDEs with my First Gen Jobby and Im considering buying a new DVDROM. If I bought one from a UK xbox, would I only be able to play UK PAL Games, and if thats the case, can you buy region free DVDROMs which would let me play my current US NTSC games and UK Games in the future?

EDIT: If I were to just settle with cleaning my lens *again*, what modchip options are there to let me play UK games? And would these chips effect XBL? i.e I would want to play any UK games I bought on XBL.

the game and xbox have to be the same region, if its unmodded.
the dvdroms arnt region locked so a ntsc dvddrive would work just the same in a pal xbox, ie only pal games would work.

if you get it modded then just make sure you can get a chip that can be disabled. (all the new chips have the feature.)

so you would just disable the modchip and play your original pal xbox live games.

So if the chip is turned off, I cannot play NTSC PAL games, just NTSC ones?
