i dont see why they wouldnt be, there really isnt much xbox-related demand for them though since they are so expensive compared to standard sized IDE drives

thanks for your response. here's why i was wondering...

i think i can get a 8-10gb laptop hdd for free. i'd like to set it up in my xbox so that:

2.5" (8-10gb) is locked and clean (only retail files)
3.5" (60gb) is unlocked and dirty smile.gif

then have a switch to switch between the two. i'd really like to use the 2.5" drive for the 'live drive' because i think it will fit in the stock xbox without having to mod the case or anything to make room.

i think 'rumor' is the key-word there. anyway, i'm willing to take my chances on that. this setup i have in mind would just be real convenient for me. i wouldn't have to worry about some dvd or game automatically upgrading my msdash...i wouldn't care if it did or not.

A laptop drive can be added the same way people do the xtender mod, except for the little adapter that must be used to convert 40-pin ide to 36 (I believe)pin ide. And most laptop hd's are lockable, seeing as most newer laptops have uber security features built in. Think IBM thinkpad...

http://www.xbox-scen...multi-drive.php (Same thing as the xtender, w/o the case mod)

And laptop drives, being inherently smaller than normal pc ide drives use less pins (normal computers use 40-pin ide, laptops use 36 or 34 or some weird number). You can buy an adapter @ compusa.

No earthly idea. I walked passed it and was like ohh thats cool and then went on my way to play with the macs wink.gif

All it does is convert 40pin ide to the smaller standard.
