I've been exploring the possibility of adding a NAS device to my home network, but I'm curious to know if anyone has had this type of setup work with XBMC. The device that I'm looking at is the Linksys NLSU2.

The device is SAMBA compliant, and my thinking is that this type of setup would be great to store your movies and music for streaming through XBMC. Any success stories or failures would be appreciated.

yes, I'm using the NSLU2 with SAMBA and XBMC. I have a USB2.0 160GB external
HD connected to the NSLU2. works great for playing MP3's and watching DIVX
movies from the HD on XBMC. also, 3 of my XP PRO PC's can see the NSLU2
and my win2K PRO pc can see it too. I made a user/passwd of xbox/xbox
on everybody. you do need to enter the NSLU2's ip address, user/passwd, and
share dir path in your XBMC config file

Anyone has experience on other NAS boxes?

I'm trying Synology DS-101 (http://www.synology....cts/index.shtml)
although don't have any idea if it has streaming possibilities.

I was planning to use it for pc backup, mp3 and divx collection storage for xbox and pc. From windows I can connect to it with Musicmatch Jukebox (drive share), but can I use it similarly from XBMC? Or do I need streaming?

Just fiddled with the XboxMediaCenter.xml and got smb working, no worries, easy job, can play mp3s and videos. Don't know about streaming though...
