you will need to flash the chip properly and install a dashboard. Then you should be good to go

Just a quick few things I thought I'd add. If you dont want to solder then you might wana purchase a solderless adaptor, but if your xbox is a version 1.6 or 1.6b then you cannot use the solderless adaptor and would have to do some soldering anyway.

I noticed the hard drive you are looking at comes preloaded with a bunch of cool things which if very nice if you have the money, but its so simple to load all those things on yourself I'd rather just spend the extra cash on a larger hard drive or buy a normal 120 gig maxtor and save urself some money. (i can't tell how expensive that drive is since i'm too lazy to convert to dollers)

The x3 is a very nice chip, lots of debate between it and a xenium ice. I've never used an x3 so u can ignore this if you want, but i know the xenium ice with solderless adaptor is very very beginner friendly. Just thought i'd toss that out, x3 lovers flamethrower.gif away.

You need to flash the chip with a different bios so that it can boot up to a dashboard of your choosing. If you got any questions about that check the total n00b guide to everything which is in the beginners tutorial section of xbox-scene.com
