Dell Small Business has Dimension 4550 P4-2.4Ghz/533Mhz bus processor desktop, 128MB DDR333 memory/30GB, Free 40x CDRW upgrade, Ethernet, XP Home, Word Perfect, 6 months AOL or MSN $549 - $100 rebate = $449 shipped free.

Then I would sell WinXP and the cheap-o software that comes with it for another $100.

$345 for a striped down 2.4ghz sounds so good I might buy one just for my TV. And I already have a 2.8ghz with rambus.

no, you can upgrade dell's, you just cant get rid of thier shitty special dell bios, that gateway also does. if your looking to buy a computer you actually want to work with, build your own.

Like many of us I am a computer juny. The only way you are going to get a better computer than a Dell is to build it yourself, and that only works if you really know what you are doing. Dell's Lower end stuff generally blows, but there have been 3 times that I bought a Dell as soon as the 'new fastest' chip came out, loaded with all else, and those 3 computers rocked!

I don't remember what year it was but I got a 400mhz with a 21' Trinitron like the day it came out. I also ordered a SCSI adapter host and a 4x yamaha cdr. It was like 7 years ago, i dunno but it cost me $4200, lol.

Dell give's out specs to a model... then you see a price for that model... what people don't know that a model can have different hardware in it at different prices.

EXAMPLE

You think this Dimension 8250 has a 3GHz chip with over a GB of DDR for only 1,049?? NO!!

gotta look at FROM..1,049
and... UP TO..1.5 DDR RAM

If you can mod a xbox you can use kazza for software and pricewatch for hardware.. now that my friend is a cheap system..

btw, my cost on a box with the same specs to a dell was $850 compared to $1,599 <--- same EXACT hardware and software
