What conditions should you lock your HD, and is it required for softmods and/or modchips, or not?

I want to use an unlocked drive using softmods is why i ask, but i'm not sure if its required by softmods or not.

Good luck. Softmods need the drive locked.

Thank you!!! I'm trying to setup an automated disc imaginf utility for softmod exploits, basically you'll out your eeprom in a specific folder. After that it will unlock, dump the image for the softmod of your choice, then relock. 1,2,3...

Thanks!
