Sorrie about the x post but knowone awnsered me so...

Not shure if it's my bios or the dash so i'm hoping some one can clear this up for me

When ftping into the xbox with flashfxp it wont accept files with long names 42 chars to be exact the xfer just fails and moves on to the next file seems to be strange cause i have the same problem getting the same long file names of a burnt cd.

the files will go on there fine if i chop them down below 42 chars ?????

Use quix 2 grab the files off the disk straight 2 ur pc. Its saves it as a .ISO which u can burn using Nero, for backups. The Xbox doesn't store files with characters more than 42 long so there is 1 thing an Xbox can't do!. (yet?)

He was talking about putting files on not taking them off his HD
But yeah its a limit of the xbox file system and at the present can't be changed.

This is sad news indeed :-(

renaming mp3's and avi's will now become the next chapter of my life...

I saw that X3 had modded their latest OS/bios to chop/re name 42 chars or more files and numbering them in some shape or form. not shure on the spec's cause i aint got a chip.
But is this somthing that could be implemented to UnleashX????????

This 42 character limit has been a pain in my ass lately. Renaming all Aqua Teen Hunger Force episodes took some time. wink.gif

Yeah, you can turn autorename on, but it seems to just trunc the names at the limit. It might condense spaces and remove some dodgy characters as well, but (from my experience) if you had queued an upload of two files called:

myabsolutelylegallyownedhomemovieoflisa-CD1.avi
myabsolutelylegallyownedhomemovieoflisa-CD2.avi

Once the first file began, unleashx would handle the incoming FTP stuff and create a file called:

myabsolutelylegallyownedhomemovieoflis.avi

then the second file would begin transferring.
unleashx would create another file, unfortunately also called myabsolutelylegallyownedhomemovieoflis.avi and overwrite your original.

At the end, your FTP client will tell you its uploaded two files (true), both transferred successfully (true) and you will infer that both files are available (false).
