I am using a GBA emulator and I have each individual game listed so I can launch them directly from my dash. I know that when you press start, you can customize the menu item (ie add icon and preview) but when I set the icon to a certain image and save it, next time I reset or bootup my Xbox, the icons are gone. Is there a way to set it up in the config.xml file?

Here is an example of one of the games:
CODE

Zelda: The Minish Cap

When I click this item the game launches automatically. Is ther an arguement like icon="whatever.png" that will work?

CODE

Zelda: The Minish Cap

Replace "X" with whatever drive/path suits you.

Yep it does work if you add it the config.xml manually.

You are editing your config.xml by hand and not via the unleashx menu by pressing start and Edit Item?

Open up your config.xml in a text editor and add the icon path to your line as exampled above, save the manually edited config.xml and reboot.

I found the Edit Item in unleashx menu doesn't always saves settings for me either.
Manually editing the config.xml works for me everytime.

I noticed your sig says your using uxe ... are you using nkpatcher with a virtual C by any chance ?
There's a few things that can cause your settings not to be saved if you are.

I tested that Item Action you use with an icon and it works for me ..
I tested on a v1.6 xbox using xboxdash.xbe and UXE 71 fonts from uxe complete in turn launches nkpatcher10. nkpatcher10 mounts my real C as partition 8 and my shadowc.img is on real C , shadowc.img is mounted as Virtual C drive.
Virtual C has my orig msdash and unleashx , config.xml and skins folder....

I've had no probs editing and saving my config.xml when virtual C is mounted.
If your not using a Virtual C then the prob lies else where and I'm wasting words for nothing ..lol

Give me bit more info on your softmod setup , prob can sort your prob fairly quickly with the right info. No promisses all the same.

I am using nkpatcher10 but w/out the virtual c drive. Do the images have to be a certain size? I tried using both PNG and JPG file formats too. The size I am using is 222x220.

QUOTE
*Icons don't show up -What are the sizes of your icons? 640X480? Please try to limit it to 64X64, you can push it to 128x128. I'll see if I can limit the mem usage, but it usually is lacking in memory. Hit the "Y" button to see your available memory, if it's less than 12MB, there's a good chance that it won't show up.
This snippet came from Faq And Facts, About the latest release... which I found in Pinned:: Important Threads .

Ok , I know your not n00b and you know what your doing , but I'll type out exactly what I'm doing and the exact path of my icon.

Made zelda.png 64x64 ..

I placed the zelda.png in F:\emus\gba\icons\zelda.png (created a folder called "icons" in the GBA directory as you can see)

I opened and edited my config.xml (which resides on C drive for me) via FTP through Flash FXP by right clicking the config.xml and selecting edit.

I added the line under the MENU Section of the config.xml
CODE

Zelda: The Minish Cap

After adding the line to the config.xml I selected File->Save from the editor window.
I closed the editor window (Word Pad) then clicked the OK button in Flash FXP.

I rebooted the xbox and now have a new menu Item with the icon I made displaying beside the Menu Item (I was using the default UnleashX skin).

So the only thing I did was make sure my path/name/format was correct to the icon. (Icon="F:\emus\gba\icons\zelda.png" added to your line in earlier post)

Where's your Icon reside ?
Please paste the line from your config.xml that you've been trying to use.
Then I'll prob ask some dumb question that you've already covered, but it's the only way to problem solve these anoying things when they arise. I know it's something simple or probly something overlooked.

I am actually working with the game driven to make it simple until I figured it out. I even placed type icon in my f:\ directory. here is the line of code for it:
CODE
<Item Action="f:\emus\gba\default.xbe" arg1="f:\emus\gba\roms\driven.gba" Icon="f:\driven.png>Driven

edit: I just realized there is no end quote after driven.png. Duh
I am such an idiot. It works now. Thanks for your help.

You missed a closing quote :

Yours: Icon="f:\driven.png>Driven

Should be: Icon="f:\driven.png">Driven

" is meant to be between png and <

driven.png"<

try it .. should work.
