I bought a couple of xbox's at Christmas and while replacing the DVD drives in them found one has a mod chip. I have spent 2 months trying to figure out;
1. What type of mod it is
2. What I must do to use it
3. What BIOS to flash it with (if any)
4. Tried every freaking thing I could think of to get it to work/boot to HDD no luck.

Anyone who could help I would be forever in your debt.

It has a SST49LF020 Chip on the board. I have pictures to email you if anyone wants to look at the mod/drive installed.

SST49LF020 comes up with a few cheapmod references through yahoo

http://www.x-elixis....m/cheapmods.htm
was the first one I ran across. They show it being removeable on thier product.

-WRONG forum....but thats ok...now you know for next time buddy. I dont like to encourage posting in the wrong forum...but im not a bad guy either...so this time...you get my help:)

i still come across those every now and then.... that is a matrix modchip....one of the first solderless.....personally....i think they cause way more problems than any solder chip....but yea...no doubt....thats a matrix...search around......if its flashed with the ms bios for some reason, ship it to me for a couple bux and ill program it(ive still got a matrix programmer....*taps it to shake off dust*) You also may want to search around....it may just be turned off on the dipswitch settings on it.

OK well was confused on which forum I should post in but thanks for not slammin me.

OK when I turn it on it flashes green but at some point goes to red and stays. No the XBOX "oem" dash comesup.

As for reprograming the thing I need an address I suppose?

Ok so do I need to make a boot disk to access? If so can someone PLEASE give an URL to the actual software download PLEASE I cannot seem to ever find the actual program.

Hey thank you all for being kind enough to help the new dude...
