I have seen articles and the like saying it works, but I need to know for sure!! And if so, does anyone know of a REPUTABLE site that sells both NEW lasers and drives. I just got burnt on EBAY. My "new" laser arrived but doesn't work!

Another Q: When you get the unrecognizable disk error - could it be more than just the laser?? if so, what could it be and how do I determine whether it is the laser or a dead drive??

Please this is important - I am fixing an XBOX for a client. Up to this point, for all the xboxes I have fixed, I have had spare parts kicking around and just replaced the drive. Now I need to buy some parts!!!

Yes, buying replacement lasers work. I've bought both replace Thompson drives and lasers off ebay, both with success. If you bought something off ebay that doesnt work, why didnt you send it back? Look my name up on ebay, read my reviews and one of my recent purchases was a replacement laser.

Thanks Caster - I just recieved the laser last night and put it in last night. I will try on another Thomson drive, and if that doesn't work - I will send it back! You know what I tried Techconsoles, but had a problem with him. His paypal wouldn't accept payment and he didn't reply to many many e-mails - so I bought from a different ebay seller.

Well, i purchased both a replacement drive and laser from tech consoles. Both arrived 3 days after payment and were in their original packaging.

This sounds obvious but did you unsolder the static protection points on the new laser?

Yes I did - but I understand your reason for the question.

Do you remember who you bought from?

Also, is it possible that the Thomson drive is bad??

xboxusa on ebay sells brand new thomsons for $23.88...they work, they are great, i've purchased quite a few off of him...

Here

Well they used to be $23.88, now they are $28.88 but he went way down on shipping so it's the same, was $12.85 now it's $7.85...so it works out the same price, around $36 total.
