Some files won'y FTP to the xbox harddrive. Does anyone know if either FLASHFXP or the xbox has problems with files that are names in certain ways?

I'm not in front of my home PC/XBOX but I'll try to give an example:

02-50_cent_this_is_50_(featuring_someone_who_I_can't_recall).mp3

that is, as far as I remember, the format of the file name.
if renamed to
02_50_cent_this_is_50.mp3
it transfers fine

is there a workaround for this? I'm assuming its either filename length or perhaps the () that cause the problems. A solution other than renaming would be nice as I don't want to manually rename a bunch of files (though Musicmatch lets me do batch renames, dunno if winamp does)

Thanks in advance.

This is a limitation of the FATX format the xbox uses for it's hard drive. If I remember correctly you can't have files with more than 40 characters and you can't have certain symbols - forget which.

Basically the workaround is........rename the files.

BTW I have to rename virtually all of 50 Cents stuff - what with "feat so and so" etc etc tongue.gif

edit - Tag & Rename allows you to change the filename automatically based on the ID3 tags using certain strings i.e

original filename:
02-50_cent_this_is_50_(featuring_someone_who_I_can't_recall).mp3

rename using ID3 Tag mask %6. %1 - &2
And new filename:
02. 50 Cent - This Is 50.mp3
