My cousin's friend has an xbox and It's not woking anymore.
He suppose he has an v1.0 because he has a 40 mm fan in it and a thompson drive. My cousin put his dvd and hdd in the broken xbox to see if it was a dvd, hdd problem and it isnt.

This is what happens: When he turn the xbox on, the xbox logo screen appears like normal but instead of booting to msdash, it shows up the multi language screen requesting services.

Sorry for my english, I live in Quebec,

Any ideas what it could be? uhh.gif

EDIT: I forgot to say that the led flash red

In the upper left hand corner there should be a number that appears...usually white...let us know what it is

Putting another hard drive in the box will not work, it WILL boot to an error screen because the hard drive will not be unlockable from the code stored in the xbox's eeprom.

Try a new dvd drive along with the old hard drive. Make sure all the cables are snuggly fitted into the dvd, hard drive, and motherboard.

Also, do check out the error code. Does the hard drive make nasty noises when it's on? Can you hear it spin up?

doesn't red flashing generally means a blown/screwed EEPROM??

If the 'call customer sevice' screen comes up, then it's FRAGing, not flashing only red. Yes, if it was only red as soon as you turn it on, then it's a bad eeprom solder/eeprom code.

So what's the error code in the top left of the screen, if there is a number?

1.0's don't display error codes....

Put the 1.0's original HDD in there, but put in a new DVD drive.
Also, try loading an original game (preferable with the new drive).

If the error screeen still persists, I'm willing to bet that it's an error code 07 (HDD timeout; either your HDD is dead, or your IDE cable needs to be replaced), or something to do with the clock (error 16).

Try replacing the IDE cable if possible. If the error still occurs, then you'd probably have to chip it and put in another HDD.
