So I got a new hard drive for my 'box and now I need to flash the EEPROM chip so I can get on live because in my mind, if you don't have live, ur 'box is useless.

anyone know how to get ConfigMagic onto an XBox and then how to use it?

help is much appreciated

Assuming you have the eeprom already...

taken from majik

QUOTE
open ConfigMagic16 folder

then open the "DATA" folder
(inside this folder there should be a file called
eeprom.cfg)

PLACE your NEW EEPROM.BIN file IN this FOLDER!!

So now in your DATA FOLDER you should now have:

eeprom.bin (new eeprom.bin file  NOT A BLANK ONE)
eeprom.cfg (file already with CMF in the data folder)

now close the data folder.

open or go back to CMF's main folder and you should see
a file called configmagic.ini

open this file with notepad.
(if the text inside this file is stretched so you have to
scroll left to right to read it.. goto FORMAT at the top and
choose WORD WRAP  .. maybe that might help it so you can read
it... when you edit anything in here the SPACES MATTER!!!
so don't delete nothing or do anything if you don't understand!)

in the middle of this file you will see a section like
*** SPECIFY INPUT FILES IN THIS SECTION ***

under this.. you will see 2 lines:
EEPROMBinFile  = "e:\apps\configmagicfinal\data\eeprom.bin"
EEPROMCfgFile  = "e:\apps\configmagicfinal\data\eeprom.cfg"

PLEASE EDIT ONLY THESE 2 LINES TO SHOW THE CORRECT PATH TO THOSE
2 FILES IN THE CMF DATA FOLDER ON YOUR XBOX!!
DO NOT MESS WITH THE SPACINGS!!  just change if you have to the
path to those 2 files ONLY!!

AGAIN if this does not make sense ask.!!!!

Once those 2 lines show the correct path that it would be on your xbox
then close and save.

NOW upload the whole "configmagicfinal" folder to where ever you
keep your apps on your xbox via ftp.

MAKING SURE it is the same spot you said in the INI file you just edited
or looked at!!!  THIS IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT.

if you have your apps folder in  E:\  then
E:\apps\configmagicfinal\data\eeprom.bin

is what you should have put in the INI file when you edited those 2 lines
or respectively to how ever  you have your xbox setup.

Now that you uploaded the folder..
reboot your xbox..

and it should show in your apps folder.

select config magic final from your apps menu.

follow the instructions on the screen.

CMF will have a intro.. you can press A and stop it..

once CMF starts PRESS START

A menu comes up..
SELECT UNLOCK HARD DRIVE...once hard drive is unlocked
press START AGAIN and

SELECT LOAD EEPROM from BIN
if all is correct in the ini file  and pointing to the new eeprom the the info should be different...
if you need to change regions or anything you can
PRESS START and choose EDIT EEPROM ON THE FLY... and change the region to what you need.
the press start again and
SELECT UPDATE EEPROM

and again follow instructions on screen from there.
once finished SHUT XBOX OFF!!

turn back on and try your connection.

SHOULD BE ALL GOOD TO GO NOW.
now you can start CMF  again and LOCK your hard drive again.

Ftp the program into an apps directory and use the eeprom flasher in order to flash your eeprom . Make sure your drive is unlocked before flashing the new eeprom , then reloack it to that new eeprom in evox ( i reccomend evox over config magic , just cause i try to reccomend config magic as little as possible )
