hi i have a modded xbox with a x3 and a 250gb hdd. my friend wants my same setup with xbmc and all; he's trying to take his box to college with him in a couple of weeks. His box is fairly new, he just got it this christmas so i'm sure it's a newer ver., it's made in China but i don't know the actual ver. My ques. is would he be better off with a x3 solderless or a soldered chip. I wanna know if the new solderless solutions have been promising and usable unlike the first generation of adapters.

if he's taking it places i'd go with a soldered chip.

X3 is a good chip but I doubt he'd get enough use out of it. Duox2 for about $15 would do the job.

As long as he doesn't have a v1.6, whenever I modify my friends Xboxes I use the 007 Raincoat Trick. I costs $10 for the game, and you won't have to worry about fixing his Xbox if his chip ever comes loose.

For 1.6 Xboxes, I have been using Executer 2.6 chips, but when I run out of those, I will probably start using Aladdin XT chips (assuming I can find them) because of their extremely low cost

I'm sorry, his chip wouldn't come loose...because he wouldn't have one! get it?! Sorry I'm bored, my flight's delayed and there's nothing fun to do on the internet.

Always solder the chips down to the board. They can come lose if you are say going to a LAN party or moving your xbox. I know a buddy who was dusting his setup and his chip came loose and it's a bitch sometime to find the D0 point
