I only hear mediocre to negative comments about these gimmicks fo the real deals. Just a get a real NES if you intend to play classics.

I've seen dozens of different makes/models in HK and in some Akiba backstreets before they cracked down on piracy there.

Don't bother, all but one I've seen are garbage. A redesigned NES/Famicom costs, what, 30 bucks?

Hell, I bought a first-gen Famicom (second hand, obviously) in excellent condition with perfect box and manuals in Akiba for 80 bucks (great collectors piece, just got my Disk System, boxed, last month as well).

Now, the newly released Famulator is a different story. Now THAT rocks!

1) They are, however, still around in certain areas.

2) No, you don't see them much anymore since they cracked down back in 2002-ish.

3) No, I'm a private resident.

4) No more talk about pirate carts, okay?

I think the patent ran out on the original NES system, so they're perfectly legal now to manufacture. You can get a decent ** link removed **

Granted there on a chip, thats how far we've advanced in technology...Most emulate Nintendo games they were supposed to be.. and you can use original NES controllers too.

I know its just the real Nintendo is better. Its made better.Ive seen
the bootleg Nintendo's all the time. The patent didnt run out for Nintendo,
its illegal for companies to manufacture those bootleg systems.Nintendo
stills make money on there old school Nintendo games.

Nintendo still has copyright on their hanafuda sets for crying out loud.

And they're pretty good at protecting their IPR. Go ask Tengen. wink.gif

Not talking about copyrights here, talking about patents. Patents typically last about 20 years versus a copyright which lasts typically 95 years. So why they do have the copyright to the "Nintendo System" that doesn't mean someone can't go out and build something similiar to it now that the patent has expired.
Infact very soon Gamestop, Babbages, and other video game retailers will be selling an Nes clone called the NEX.

Huh. Thanks for correcting my termioology. smile.gif

Pretty slick, that. I was more concerned with curbing any talk of pirate 100-in-1 carts than the copyright vs. patent thing. But thanks for pointing that out.

So the systems are up for grabs but not the games? Interesting. Oh by the way I did win a bid for a NES. Good deal came with zapper, 2 controllers, and 25 games for 47.00$, thats with shipping. Fun times. cool.gif
