Hi,anyone need anything added to sxb new release 2 if

so let me know ok.

Now 3000 sxb isos have been downloaded and no one

has yet reallY let me know these things below.

DID ANYONE TRIED SXB AS LIVECD AND DID SAVE SETTINGS WORKED.?
NOT TESTED BY ME AS XBOX DVDROM DAMAGED.

DID YOU ADD USB WEB CAM TO XBOX AND RUN XCAM

OR XAWTV IN SXB DESKTOP AND GOT WEB CAM WORKING

AS I HAVE DONE AND TESTED MYSELF?

AND NEXT SXB NEW RELEASE2

DIGI USB TV CARDS NOT FULLY TESTED BY ME YET.

DID YOU TRIED SXB ON USB DEVICE SXBONASTICK

AS TESTED AND WORKING BY ME ON MY I GIG MP3 PLAYER.

AND OTHER DIRECRFB AND XDIRECTFB STUFFF I TESTED.

So,you see how can i add or change things in next sxb new release2
as needed if people do now give me any real feed backup.

Yes i know some stuff people reported on but its more for

there help on running sxb then the real feed back i need,

if you want things added and working well.

so guys thanks and look foward to sxb new release 2 and my own

distro poor linux sxb style in kernel 2.6 flavor.

from what i gathered in your instuctions im pretty sure i burned the iso properly and NO!!! it did not work. I cant even get it installed onto the hd through ftp probperly. I think u need to go over your install instructions. Please post a new and revised tutorial on where to put everything and also, i waqs confused on weather or not you werre booting up through evox or Cromwell, please give us all the info about what you;ve done. Im a noob but i understand technical stuff but this is too much.

once again, please revise your instructions and post them here and also on the SXB website. thanks in advance.

Thank you so much!! once again

ok, well so far, it looks nice, i got it installed through ftp, kinda, wouldnt copy all the files unless it was in XDSL. i think its the files with a . before them, but thats no problem. i dont mind. the only other issue i have is i cant seem to get the loopback install to work. i have everything installed in E/sxbox and E/sxboxE as your sxb-faq-doc says. i run the sxb install to F: and it installs. comes up at the en saying master Dir is already here E/sxbox or E/sxboxE (sorry cant remember which, if you need, ill do it again so i can tell you for sure) and it says it is finished and to restart and launch the default.xbe. i choose loopback in F and it starts up but does not finish. ill show you what is shown as it stops.

yes, i tried it with a usb keyboard plugged in and it does not work, you cant type anything at the prompt and the three finger salute does nothing for it. anyways, let me know what you think, ill test what i can if its within my grasp or if i have time, still a linux newb and still in college. everything else looks good to me besides that so far. nice job

If I do the FTP install method from your docs, it will ask fail to boot if I don't have the CD in.

If I boot with the CD in either from the hard drive or CD, it will load up, let me log in, then spin as if it is still loading, then finally stop and just sit there doing nothing.

[quote=bollywood,Nov 6 2005, 11:29 PM]
Hi,great some real feedback thanks.

Ok first,Hum,i did not realise that many new people will be using sxb

as i think most people out off 3000 sxb isos downloaded have managed

to run sxb ok.So people who are still stuck and confused we will try and

help here ok.I read your posts and i think i have covered it before here

few times if you search other posts here.Anyway i will try and explain

here below again ok,so it helps. The newsxb release2 i will release soon

i will add all dirs in iso so people who like doing ftp can just copy the dirs

to xbox and sxb is installed or use sxb iso boot in xbox and install from there.

So until then we try this iso working for you guys still need help ok.

Ok,as stated in docs my xbox dvd drive is damaged an i could not test

the sxb iso booting or test the sxb livecd part if my xbox dvddrive was ok

some errors i would come across and had been sorted ok.This is why

i asked people you will have to test this for me,infact just before i release

sxb new iso i asked people here can someone test sxb iso before i release

it but no one said yes,so i had to trust anyone who downloaded and tried sxb

to give me feed back instead,as some of you guys are doing now.

Ok,never edit linuxboot.cfg in any xbox dashboard as some times

editing this file in xbox dashboard corrupt's it and then sxb files

are not found.Only edit this file on pc or inside running sxb or

other xbox distro.i always use midnight commander to edit

this file inside sxb running.

So again do not edit linuxboot.cfg file in dashboards in xbox.

use above method or on pc then ftp it back to xbox.

The other thing some xbox dashboards when you ftp

files from pc to xbox do not like some hidden and symlink

files to be transfered to xbox and this is why some off you

guys get errors when you ftb sxb files to xbox but in any

running xbox-linux its ok to do this.

So when you guys want to install sxb doing ftp

then when you ftp sxb files to xbox do not copy the save

dir to xbox as this has these symlink and hidden files in it.

So copy every thing in to ther dirs to xbox but do not

copy save dir in sxb iso.Look below in post for what

file and dirs go where ok.

once you copied all other files then in xbox just make a

new empty save dir instead ok then when sxb is

run the files get added there anyway ok as sxb uses save

dir to add and delete save files.

So again 2 things do not edit linuxboot.cfg file in xbox dashboard

and do not copy the save dir to xbox just create a empty save

dir ok.This is why people are getting errors ftping to xbox ok

in some dashboard and ftp app it seems to work ok,but

some do give errors.

First main error in sxb.iso was that it did not boot right,as i over looked

the linuxboot.cfg file and forgot to add kbd-reset in it so when

sxb boots from cd you get keyboard errors ya.

So we all know now to edit linuxboot.cfg and add kbd-reset line

in it and then we can build and burn iso again. So it boots as livecd

and we can then choose sxb install and install it to hd ok.This is the

best and easy method as planed. So after editing linuxboot.cfg

by extracting all sxb iso files to tmp dir on pc.and to build the sxb iso back

look in root of tmp dir the file create_bootiso.sh and type

./ create_bootiso.sh sxbnew.iso from there

now we have a working sxb iso we burn this and run

it in xbox and try all installs there OK.

NOTE THE ABOVE ONLY IF YOU ARE DOING THIS ON YOUR

PC RUNNING SOME LINUX.

for people using windows you can use winiso, magiciso, etc ok

to build sxbiso again even easier.

For people who just want to ftp sxb to xbox and are not using

sxb installs you will first need to know what dir's and files goes

where and you will need to make your own 126 swap.img file

to add and you have to rename linuxboot.cfg.hd to linuxboot.cfg

and add this also.In sxb new we have 2 linuxboot.cfg files

one linuxboot.cfg this is fo the sxbcd to boot and run as livecd.

the other is linuxboot.cfg.hd this is to run sxb installed on xbox hd ok.

Again note linuxboot.cfg.hd when you ftp all files to xbox you have to

rename linuxboot.cfg.hd to linuxboot.cfg then ftp this ok this is

why some of you getting errors when running sxb on hd after ftping

to xbox.

Again there are 2 linuxboot.cfg files so be carefull which one you

copy and rename to xbox ok.

Note if you build sxbiso again and burn you will not need to do all this.

as the installer in sxb lvecd will make dirs swap.img file and rename

linuxboot.cfg.hd to linuxboot.cfg and copy all files where they belong ok.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any way for ftp and manual install do all dirs and files as shown below ok.

Note only for sxb modular and not for sxbloop method

SXB default modular say we first do E hd on xbox ok,so on E hd we

have to make 2 dir's one sxbox and one sxboxE

so we have e/sxbox here most of the system files go

and e/sxboxE where vmlinuz linuxboot.cfg default.xbe and 128 swap.img file

we make 2 dir's ok on e hd so it looks as below.

E:/sxboxE/ ----- this is master sxb dir we only need this once only
and all installed sxb modular, sxb loop, sxbusb and
from any hd E F and G and /dev/sda1 for sxbusb will
all be run with this one master sxb dir and using the same
128mb swap.img file kernel vmlinuz initrd.gz linuxboot.cfg
and xcromwell default.xbe ok.So once this dir is created
either manualy or by sxb installer.

E:/sxboxE/vmlinuz ---our sxb kernel ok
E:/sxboxE/linuxboot.cfg ---- this we renamed it from linuxboot.cfg.hd ya.
E:/sxboxE/initrd.gz ---- linuxrc and modules and other scripts inside this.
E:/sxboxE/default.xbe --which is really our sxb xromwell xbe

E:/sxboxE/swap.img =128mb you will need to make your own if you are not
using sxb installer, but if you want you can skip this
swap.img file for now,as sxb will run without it,but once
you have sxb running you can add it in by typing this
in console in sxb type
dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/disc0part50/sxboxE/swap.img bs=1M count=128

and mkswap /mnt/disc0part50/sxboxE/swap.img that's it ok.

so copy all these files in sxb master dir from iso ok and do not
forget to rename linuxboot.cfg.hd to linuxboot.cfg then copy it ok.

so above our sxb master dir is done ok E:/sxboxE now e:/sxbox dir next.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
now mkdir on e hd sxbox all our other files and dir's remaning will go
in this dir ok so it looks lik so below and do not forget the tiny but
very important file livecd.sgn without this file no sxb will ever work.
so make sure it is included in the root of e:/sxbox/livecd.sgn ok.

so e:/sxbox dir below ok.

E/sxbox/
E/sxbox/backup --- this dir backups the save mo file for hd autosave.

E/sxbox/download ---- whatever you download from net etc download
it to this dir So in firefox in sxb when you download
anything point your firefox to download in this dir in sxb.
so point it to /boot/download in firefox.
Note i do not want to confuse you but this
/boot/download is the same dir as E/sxbox/download
so again in sxb only download in this /boot/download
dir only and if you download in /root or any where
else it will go in to memory and slow sxb down,so
only add downloads to /boot/download ok as this
is a modular sxb install in sxbloop this does not matter
as it is than normal linux.

E/sxbox/modules --- modules go here directfb xdirectfb mediaplayers etc mods

E/sxbox/extramods/ --- extra modules go here wine samba etc.

E/sxbox/optional/ ---- this has our hd autosave module zsxbsave.mo

E/sxbox/loop/
i do not think we need these 2 dir's as all loop and usb
scripts i added in initrd.gz now so you can leave these out.
E/sxbox/usb/

E/sxbox/tools -- this is some of the tools needed to extract
make build modules etc these tools are in
sxb /sbin also so you could leave this out
if wanted but its there just incase you need tools
somewhere else when building your own modules.

E/sxbox/livecd.sgn --- this is a file not a dir you must have this here
or sxb will not work you will get errors compressed
files not found extra note you do not need this
file for sxbloop method, but you need it for sxbusb ok.

So after all above sxb modular on E hd is done so for other hd it look below

E/sxbox F/sxbox for F hd G/sxbox For G hd
E/sxboxE

So note we only have one master dir e/sxboxE ya and F and G sxbinstalls

will use E/sxboxE as, so on F AND G hd we do not need master sxb dir ok.

So now if you want to install sxb to F or G just move the e/sxbox
and leave sxb master dir on E/sxboxE ok and run default xbe
from e/sxboxE

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
sxb loop install You must have at least 3 gbit free space
our you will get errors as install makes 128 mb
swap.img and 1.5 gb loopfile img and installer
needs big tmp space as well, beacause in sxb
you can not just copy all files as in normal linux.
what the installer has to do is mount every module
in tmp dir and then extract it to inside loopfile img.

YOU have to run sxb installer to have sxb loop running

so once you have sxb running in ftp method or livecd method

as shown above then choose sxb installer loop method in desktop

menu.Installer will add 1.5 gb sxbloop.img file and if needed

add master sxb dir E/sxboxE. so it will look as below for all drives e f g
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SO ON E HD SXBLOOP LOOK LIKE BELOW

E/sxbloop/sxbloop.img --- 1.5 gb loop file

And master sxb dir below

E/sxboxE ---- master sxb dir see above for ftp.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
SO ON F HD SXBLOOP LOOK LIKE BELOW

F/sxbloop/sxbloop.img --- 1.5 gb loop file

note no master sxb dir it will use e/sxboxE and swap.img

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SO ON G HD SXBLOOP LOOK LIKE BELOW

G/sxbloop/sxbloop.img --- 1.5 gb loop file

note no master sxb dir it will use e/sxboxE and swap.img

------------------------------------------------------------------
NOW SXBUSB INSTALL this is modular as wint default sxb ok.

installer will format usbdevice and copy all files to the root of /dev/sda1

and to run SXBONASTICK click default xbe in E/sxboxE master dir

and choose sxbonastick from menu to run.

This sxbonastick is infact much better than livecd and faster specially

if you are lucky to have these new super fast usbdevices they run

nearly as fast as sxb on loopfile.

you will need 250 mb plus usb device.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok after all thoes sxb isos download i only have one person

giving me feedback ha bollywood i tried the livecd method

as you could not try yourself as your dvd drive was damaged.

So ok lets say sxb livecd auto save does not work as i planed

for now ok,as now at last some one tried fo me and gave

me an answer yes or know so thanks.I will have to asume

he understood what i stated in sxb docs and how to edit

linuxboot.cfg file and add new cheats codes for livecd autosave

to work and rebuild iso and then try again.

Ok no worries for now i will add a better method for

hd and live cd autosave feature next sxbnew release2 soon ok.

What i will do also have the sxb new release iso build so that

we have all the files and dir as needed on xbox hd.So people

for some one reason or another need to install sxb by using ftp method

all they will have to do is copy 2 dir's to sxb and sxb is installed.

So in sxbnew.iso release2 i will have /sxbox and sxboxE dir's

and files all as needed for quick ftp install ok.

Plus it will run as livecd and then can be installed from running

sxb cd as before using all sxb installs from menu in desktop ok.

for sxb modular loop and usb.

For sxb native i have started to upload sxb just like slackware 1.02 kit

i call this .This is for people who do not like there slackware changed

so i have just not changed much or added any tweaks and directfb

and xdirectfb stuff so it will be slower in many ways as i have tried

to keep it just like slackware ok.So to run sxb full just like slackware

on xbox you must install it as native on xbox hd to do it any justice ok.

The only things i changed is new kernel 2.6 we cant use slackware

pkg xorg 6.82 as it does not have nvxbox driver patches compiled in.

So i had to do our own sxb full xorg 6.82 with nvxbox driver patches

and compile it from scratch for this.so xorg is different from real

slackware and the kernel and i think alsa and someother stuff.

apart from this its just like slackware ok for native install on xbox ok.

I have uploaded the full Xorg now for people who need x ok.

i will upload full base pkg in few days and new 26 kernel aswell

ok.

Anyway i hope it helps some people who are still trying

to get sxb going.

seeya so look out for new sxbnew release 2 and maybe my

very own distro called poor linux soon ok

ok, well i followed your instructions and the loopback still doesnt work, still comes up with that same error. i made sure EVERY file copied over when i ftp'd them in. actually i used the scp command, because command line makes me happy. anyways, i even moved the sxboxE dir after i started sxb before running loop install script, that way it will install its own sxboxE folder in case things are different, but it still does not work. same error. i got about 9 gigs still free on my f drive. it makes the loopback file and created a nice sxboxE folder with everything in it. anyways, any advice is appreciated. if you need more details ill be happy to give them to you.

Ok thats great someone making an effort ok have you enough space on e ?

and when you started the loopsxb install to f hd all your files were installed

in there right dir example E/sxboxE and F /sxbloop/sxbloop.img

so sxb installer done all this and finished ya ok.

OK most of the quick test i done was on e drive our xbox f has not

much space for loop file and tmp so f and g install scripts i done

are a mirror img of the e loop scripts may be i forgot some line

errror there as i think i rushed to get sxbnew out as i promised

people here that no matter what i will upload newsxb that friday,

so i learn now never to rush,so i needed a day or 2 more for tests

really, and i did build this sxbnew in 4 days 3 hours a day as promised.

anyway even if i had 2 weeks more i myself can not test some parts of

my own sxb, example my xbox dvdrom is damaged so i could not boot

sxb and test and i do not have large xbox hd etc like some of you guys

only standard xbox hd etc,so loop and native sxb install on f or g hd

i can not test i have said all this before only you guys can test this

for me if you are lucky to have all extras for your xboxes ok.

This is why i asked people here can someone test certain parts

of my new sxb for me please and as you know no one offered

to help and if someone had offered help and let me know and

before i released the new sxb we would come across some of these

errors and hence sxbnew would have been uploaded error free ya.

So again if people do not test and tell me if things are working

or not with a straight answer,So how can i fix something if no

one tells me ya.No i am not talking about you as i think you are

the second person who has really given me the feed back i need..

Ok,kamikazelemmings if you get time next sxb release2 soon

if you like you can test if all sxb is working ok before release.

the new sxb release 2 i am doing now as i speak is slightly different

it might have kernel2.6 and all the scripts i have changed to suite

this is on my xbox now i have not got sxbnew running as i am testing

the soon to come out new sxb release 2 and few weeks from now

my own distro for xbox and pc called poor linux.

So the one new sxb you are using i do not have it on xbox

as i have sxbnew release2 and poor linux as i do not have space

as the xbox i use here they wont let me delete xbox games from it

to make space for my linuxes.

Ok what i will do is delete one of the newer sxb or poor linux

and installed the sxbnew you are working on back to xbox

and then i will sort out the loopfile and other things ok if needed.

To be honest i was not going to do all this as i was going to

fix all this errors in sxbnew release2 anyway.but good now

that you told me that loop does not work on f hd.as i would have to

sort it then in this new sxbnew release 2.

So while we are at it we will sort this out now so no problems ok.

But give me a day as i want to finish some stuff in newsxb release2

and poorlinux before i delete them and make space for sxnew ok.

So mean while you can try some things ok for me.

Ok,now all excuses are done lets get back to the sxb loopfile

ok as i asked before have you enough space on your E hd for sxbloop.img ?.

If you have space then copy the F/sxbloop/ dir and sxbloop.img file the

installer installed and copy it to your E hd so you have as below ok.

E/sxboxE

E/sxbloop

now run default.xbe and choose sxbloop e in xromwell menu.

and see if it was ok or not or have you already done this?

Ok so let me know we carry on from there ok.

No worries if still wrong i will extract the initrd.gz and change few lines

in there so loop gets working ok and upload new initrd.gz for you and all ok.

if that is needed ok it might be the linuxboot.cfg lines not added or something

i will look tommrow night when i installl sxbnew on xbox again ok.

Ohh,the other thing when installer was adding files in to sxbloop.img

did you see in terminal all files being copied ?

you see in sxb you can not just copy system files like you do in normal

linux for example you cant run sxb and copy file to sxbloop.img files like below

cp -frPd /* /mnt/loop it will miss lots of files and dirs due to

squasffs and unionfs.

so the sxb installer has to mount every modules to tmp dir

then it extracts the module to /mnt/loop which is our sxbloop.img

like this mo2dir /base/bin.mo /mnt/loop mo2dir /base/lib.mo /mnt/loop

mo2dir /base/user.mo /mnt/loop etc etc

Note installer adds empty dir's dev proc sys tmp

and another thing when you first run sxbloop when it works

the first time as we have blank dev proc sys tmp dirs there

to fill up these dir you have to restart sxbloop and on the second

start it will all be ok as these dirs are populated.

So for others also please restart sxbloop after the first start to

populate all dev etc dirs ok then all be ok.

ok see ya let me know.

It hangs for me, various reasons, most common was something of a keyboard driver fault (0xFF) and then when it times out, kernel seems to hang and i need to cold reboot. And my DVD drive is spacing out over the ISO, the file layout is a mess i think.

Hi,sorry i thought you must have read other post here ,as you did not

the keyboard error while booting sxbnew iso is caused by a missing line

in linuxboot.cfg,so you have to download a new linuxboot.cfg file and rebuild

the sxb iso,as if you look in sxdoc in iso,i could not test some parts of sxb

because i had damaged my xbox dvddrive hence i missed this error,as i

could not test sxb booting and the sxb livecd part myself,as i said in

docs ok.

So download new linuxboot.cfg file and i uploaded a new initrd.gz file

aswell this initrd.gz file fixex another error with sxb on a loopfile called

sxbloop ok.

Ok rebuild the sxb iso with these 2 new files and use the script

create_bootiso.sh to rebuild iso and burn on cd again or just install

sxb in ftp.

so extract sxbnew iso in some tmp dir /tmp/sxb and add new linuxboot.cfg

and initrd.gz file and type ./create_bootiso.sh sxbnew.iso and burn new iso.

i think nearly 4000 sxb new iso downloaded in 2 and a half week, and i think

kamikazelemmings good, sure you can help test any new sxb or poor

linux as i am limited at times as my xboxdvdrom is sill not fixed

and i really do not have all the extras you need for xboxes as

some of you guys have so at times i can not test all things.

As,far a new linux users go,i am a product of new linux user,

People forget sure i have done livecd for windows etc for few years, but

and am great in windows, but as far as linux i am still new and have lot to

learn.i think over a year i have been doing linux and out of that year 4 months

i did not do any linux as i was away to the east and was doing my bollywood

projects in my win2003 server,so its even better if people are new as

then you have new minds and ideas are born ok.

so thanks again i will leave a note when i need anything tested ok.

as i asked in my previous post, you should revise you installation procedure and include some pics or somthin.

Mainly because me and probly many other dont know what to do after ftping the files over. Do i boot into a cromwell bios? do i select the .xbe from within another dashboard ie evolution-x? Do i select NAtive, or FatX while in cromwell?? if i select fatx i get another 8 or so selctions, what do i select?

you need to specify a lil more
