I have completed the install of the Executer mod chip and think it should be working but am having a hard time verifying.

Checked all connections with multimeter and everything checks out

Xbox boots normally plays original games and music so at least I didn't fry it.

Downloaded winrar archive of EvolutionX1_8_458 size is 964KB. Extracted 3 files from archive : evolutionxbeta 1.8.458 (msinfo document size 3KB) evolutionx v1.8.458 (ISO file 7424KB) and menu (1KB Config settings)

Have verified I have CDRW's that work in my XBOX, made and played back audio tracks

I am using nero and have chosen CD-ROM (ISO) and made the CDRW by copying the three files described above to the CDRW (many different times) using both ISO level 1 and ISO level 2 modes in Nero.

Each and everytime I put disk in XBOX I get the same can't read disk message.

At this point I'm ready to pull the mod chip and start again but I want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

First: The format of a Xbox ISO is special. You must burn the EVOX ISO file as is. You can't drag and drop the files onto a new iso. In nero... I think you do a file open, then select the ISO, then burn.

Second:
It takes me as many as 5 or 6 (or a dozen) attempts to read the Evox CDRW sometimes. Some people say that if you completely reformat the CDRW, write it completely full of data, erase it, then burn the EVOX CDRW at a low speed, it will help the dependability of booting the disk.

You can also use Record Max, and "drag & drop" in Data Disk mode. Then select: "udf - up to 128 in file name length, any character, plus 8+3" in the record option. And burn.

Hey thanks so much for the suggestions, you just saved me a lot of time and headache.

For the record what I did was take a CDRW disk, did a complete format and instead of dragging and dropping to an ISO disk, I mounted the original ISO file using DAEMON tools and did a CD-COPY operation in Nero.

Put the disk in my XBOX and got the EvolutionX dashboard I had been longing for

Thanks again for the help

All you have to do is go to Nero, File > Burn Image > find the .iso file and burn away. Make sure you're doing DAO and close the session. No need to mount it in Daemon Tools...

snes_83,
I think that is a bios you have. The file you need is called "evolutionxv1_8_458_iso.rar". You unrar it and then use Nero to burn the ISO file.

Allright, I just helped out somebody who thought he had a messed up X-ecuter install. All it was, he wasn't burning a good iso, and he wasn't using the widely recommended prassi primo dvd or nero. I helped him out for about an hour, and he finally got his xbox booted with evox. The burning method matters so much, he was about to start resoldering stuff again! I wonder how many people had a perfectly good X-ecuter install, and started playing with the mod wires, and messing it up, because they couldn't burn the iso properly. Sheesh!

This doesn't work.

"Formatting" it uses a technique called "Packet writing" which the Xbox does not understand.

Instead you should have FULLY ERASED the disk, then use the "WRITE IMAGE TO DISK" command of your burning software.

This writes out the ISO in a block for block format. Much like copying a floppy disk.

The resulting disk should not be readable on the PC, but should boot up fine on your modded Xbox.
