Ok i have a version 1 xbox. Got it within two months it came out, so my xbox is about 4 years old. I think it's starting to die. When I first turn it on, i have to eject the disk about 10 time before it recognizes the disk. Then it freezes when it tries to load (counter-strike) to play live, and I have to restart it about 5 times before it sucessfully loads. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or is it just the xbox's time to die?

Thanks,
Schliter

Well....since you have one of the "first run" xboxs, it is probably because you have the weakest/poorest drive they ever put in them, which is the Thomson. You can try (if your technically inclined), to "pot tweak" it, and it may produce results, or start shopping for an alternate dvd-rom. If your interested...a tutorial for pot tweaking is here...

(By the way...if your planning to try this...DO make sure your dvdrom is an actual Thomson.)

I'm going to try cleaning the lens and mirror first. Thank you for the help.

I'll update if it worked or not.

POT tweaking does NOTHING for a Thompson drive. I tried it, and all that happened was it didn't work for a week because I didn't put everything back together right. I'm curious though, fierygt you say that in first run xboxes, the drive was a thompson which was the weakest, but i have a v.1.0 manufactured in 2004 and it has a thompson. Just curious..

Well mine was manufactured in 2001, so it has the first thomson drive.

Yeah. Still, I hate my Thomson. Only reads originals, DVDs, and Audio discs. It will read DVD+Rs though, so if I ever wanted to I could burn movies or data to that.
