When I press the power button, it fails to turn on twice, and on the third try, I get a flashing green light and no video, and the smartxx chip has a solid red light. What is that an indication of?

If I cant find the problem, do you recommend unsoldering and start all over?

Desoldering is a sure fire way to lift traces if you dont know what your doing. Make sure all connections are well soldered!
Is it a 1.6 mobo? if so did you rebuild the lpc?

according to the manual, you don't have to do that, it comes with an LFRAME that postions the soldering points for you to easily solder.

I touched up some soldering now, it now tries to start 3 times, and the light flashes green and red w/o video.

Also, for some unknown reason my DVD door won't open; I made sure that the power supply is connected; there is a missing pin on the adapter on the mobo, could that be it? Is there is an alternative solution?

TIA

You've not soldered either the pin header or the LPC rebuild or the D0 correctly... or any multiples therein.

What chip are you installing out of interest?

Slowly and methodically, go over each of your solder points and have a look at them. Are they bright and shiny or dull? Dull ones are the place to start your checking process...

Have a look for any solder splashes on the motherboard that might be the cause of your fragging.

Most importantly, don't make a common error - don't just wade in with a soldering iron! Check you connections by eye, then check with a multimeter. Be careful!

Pictures would help us suggest where to start looking.
