Hello. My xbox is just an ordinary one with no modifications. The other week some friends and I were playing with a few xbox's connected and mine started to act weird and freeze up. I would turn it off then back on and several times I got the error screen after it turned on that I need to take my Xbox to MS. Then it started working again after that. We then realized the Xbox was sitting on top of a speaker that had a large magnet in it so we moved it. It worked for a while more then stopped working. Now whenever I turn it on it shows the Xbox symbol, makes noises like it is loading, and then goes to the I need to send my xbox to MS. Did the magnet mess it up and is there any way i can go about fixing it? Thanks.

data corruption on the hard drive due to the magnets.

You'll need a modchip and a stock UNLOCKED hard drive to fix your xbox now.

If you use Xbox Live... it gets a bit more complicated.

You dont really even need a new hard drive.. just a modchip and a boot disk. I dont believe magnets mess up hard drives, just the data. If you got a modchip and boot a disk to have FTP access you can always reformat the drive.

Personally... around $50 for the chip, installation.. you may want to just suck it up and buy a used xbox for $100.
