hey guys, got my green led fans from xboxchopshop this mornin, and i want to run one of them at 12v and the other off the normal xbox fan power, now i know this can be done, but need clarification if it would be ok with my setup, now as some of you may already have seen i run my cathodes off the 12v from the dvd drive and i just wanna know if it would be safe enough to run one fan off the same power source, im just not sure cos of the way ive got it wired, see pic

IPB Image

i plan on just running the one fan from the same source, can the dvd wire handle it or should i go with the other 12v?

cheers in advance

also if i get the thumbs up for this ill do a tutorial if anyone is interested in this no soldering approach tongue.gif

thats what i did...i left the left one alone then hooked up the right one to the dvd drive to give me 12v on the fan directly behind the giant heatsink..(heres how i did it)i cut the power wire, i didnt touch the ground ..to the fan then ran it to the drive wire and i only get half the 12vloud noise instead of the double whammy,,

that helps a bit but what i really wanted to know its safe enough to run both cathodes and a fan off this one line, i dont know about that stuff, unless of course youve got cathodes aswell and all is good?

it could,
Put a Strain on the power source
Make your DVD ROM Drive Louder
Make your DVD ROM Drive's Read Time Increase

i would just run a wire from some where elese i know i saw a pic of a good place to get a +12v from on the board just cant rember where i saw it
when i finly get around to opening my 360 and puting some leds and acople windows in im just going to run the power and ground straight from the psu if i was you i would do the same thing

dont worry the fans running off the 12 volt will not effect any of that stuff because it has enough amperage to support the extra accesories. as long as you dont exceed the max amps it wont be a problem, if you exceed it though you may get unwanted random power downs

Were you having overheating problems? If not, then why are all these people doing this 12v fan mod? To make their 360's sound like helicopters?

I understand wanting the green LED's to go with the color scheme but why make the thing louder if it wasnt overheating before?

because the cooler its kept the longer it will last, no i wasnt having overheating problems but it will do it good in the long run, the hot air that was pouring out the back with the stockfans was unbeleivable.

Plus the led fans arent rated as high a CFM as the stock ones, so a comprimise had to be made, ive only got one running at 12v so its not as bad as them both, but the noise if noticably louder. itl quieten upa lil when the fans are broken in.
