Datel Xbox 360 Transfer Kit -- Posted by XanTium on February 22 13:45 EST
These are pictures of the Xbox 360 Transfer Kit that will be released soon by Datel at an expected retail price around $14.99. It allows to easily connect an Xbox 360 memorycard to a PC USB port for those who don't want to mod the memcard themselves (see how here or here).
The device comes with software called Xchange360 ... that (at this moment) can only backup and restore the whole memory card image (basicly a GUI version of Xbox Dumper(info)). You'll need to use homebrew software like Xplorer360(info), wxHdd(info), wxPirs(info) and wxTheme(info) to fully access and modify the files on your memcard.

Official Features:
* Transfer gamesaves, downloads, user data and related files.
* Share your great gamesaves, themes and gamer pics on a globabl scale.
* Effectively use your PC as a huge memory unit.
* Super easy to use, just plug the memory unit into the docking port and connect it to any USB enabled PC.

Nope, this software allows only the backup and restore of entire memory card images. They really dropped the ball on the software side of things. They had a real potential to destroy 360gamesaves.com and Xplorer360 but definately didn't. With their software, if you wanted to share a save with someone you'd have to send them the entire backup dump of the memory unit for them to restore, which is reallly... useless... when you can actually support Fatx and be able to work with files themselves. Ah well, $14.95 isn't bad for the adapter, not sure the software is worth much of anything though.

Maybe a stupid question, but that never stopped me,

Will we be able to use this to transfer our old xbox game saves to the 360?

I wonder what that "Hard Drive" slide in the software is for. Are they bringing a hd adapter too? That would really love.gif
Do they have to pay license fees for that device or is it MS just not opening the direct attachments for the 360?

@Unregistered: If you are able to transfer xbox1 saves from the 360 console to the 360 memcard then you should be able to take the saves from the xbox1 and put them on the 360 memcard. But as I dont have a 360 I can't tell you that.

NAH! They're software only lets you backup/restore dumps of entire memory units. Therefore, if you place themes and such there they will also be placed with your profile (for locking purposes). Therefore, when the end user tries to install your stuff he'll have to have your live profile as well. Don't think many people will pirate their live profiles.

I could really care less about their software

I'm buying this just for the cable... now I can use stuff like 360gamesaves without having do make any modifications to a memory card.

Here's waiting for the HDD version beerchug.gif

Here's guessing to they'll probably try and make their package not compatible with Xplorer360. I'd imagine this would only be possible at the driver level therefore, as long as you use their hardware and not install any software/drivers. (Use the generic usb drive drivers as explained in the tutorial on 360gamesaves) and then load up xplorer.

now lets see if they release a similar cable that will allow us to do the same with the hard drive (because you can MAKE one)

I doubt they'd make something like that though, about two weeks ago someone posted Datel's(the company that makes the Action Replay) product line up. There were about 10 items but nothing that significant, i.e. 4gb usb hdd, and some other stuff. I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT: Here it is, akodoreign posted it.

Yeah, the fact that they didn't work on a HDD to USB adapter, really surprises me.

Maybe they didn't want to void their 360's HDD warranty.... rolleyes.gif

An HDD adaptor would be awesome. I bet it's unlikely for a company like Datel to release one however due pressure from M$.

Hmm, wont this mean the achievement scheme is flawed?
If achievements work via gamesaves, wouldnt it mean that a new player could download the save and get all achievements.

Im not sure how it works, but if so - doesnt it put the whole achievement score into disripute?

Of course if achievements dont have anything to do with game saves- its a nice idea.

I don't believe achievments have anything to do with gamesaves

both achievments and games save are stored under profiles, but I don't think they're related at all past that.
